I'm in Dublin and wish to drive just 5 mins over the Dublin border into Kildare today (not an essential journey but i will as always wear my mask and follow appropriate procedure). Is it true that the guards cannot stop me but can only advise me not to go? If it's a big deal, i'll leave it until the restrictions have been lifted.

Just tell them your picking up a prescription, going doctor, getting shopping

    It's not hard

    Nope.

Then yes, you can refuse a cleaner into the house. An odd arrangement to begin with.

That would be my take but just got word drama classes going ahead.

We've gymnastic going ahead too. I was surprised but they've got confirmation from whoever they needed it from that's its an 'individual' thing & there wont be pods but everyone 2M apart on different mats. My child mad for it so will continue to bring her for now as its the only exercise she enjoys! They also clarified that anyone not from the county can get a refund for classes missed.

You are allowed to cross county boundaries for school/further education

Gymnastics would be consider non-essential and therefore would not be permitted under the current restrictions. Unfortunately the Gym owner is simply applying restriction rules as they are written

Just checked and they've gone and changed the Level 3 restrictions yet again, on Wednesday, after previously changing them on Monday.

I don't have a snapshot of the previous version so not sure exactly what's changed, but the one thing that stands out is that they've removed the separate section for "wet pubs", which now are included under "Bars, cafes and restaurants".
So the first sentence in that section now reads "Restaurants and cafes (including bars or pubs serving food or wet pubs)" which doesn't actually make any sense - how do "Restaurants and cafes" include "wet pubs".

There's a note added that "wet pubs in Dublin are to remain closed".
Nightclubs, discos and casinos have also now been moved under this heading, because sod logic.
None of the other levels have been changed and still retain a separate section for "wet pubs".

I think the "Retail and Services" section has also been changed to add additional text about shopping centres.

Weddings now says "It will not be possible to attend a wedding in another county." where I'm fairly sure earlier in the week it said "guests may not travel to a wedding in another county". Which again made more sense than the revised text.

There's also additional advice for the over 70s and medically vulnerable, which again I'm fairly sure was not there on Tuesday.

Silently changing the restriction while we're actually in a lockdown under them is just ludicrous. At this point it's impossible to know exactly what the rules are unless you check the restrictions each day.

Some hotels are still open offering full services including spa to residents. Is this a break of the rules? Why are some closed and some still open

Hotels seem.to.be setting their own rules as we saw when they reopened. Some served drinks with no food and some wouldn't. Some took and kept bookings from Dublin and some cancelled them. Seems to be pot luck!

It's not a breach of rules.

I suppose it's difficult to say but I wonder would travelling to a different county to possibly negotiate the purchase of a new car be considered an essential journey?

Not difficult to say at all. It's non essential

How about getting your car serviced?
Ours has always been serviced at the main dealers where we bought it (new).
But we live 5km outside the county.

Does anyone know what the specifics are around socially gatherings in rented accommodation? We’ve rented a house for 16 people. The policy seems to state that no gathering should take place outside your home but also says “hotels guesthouse and b&bs May remain open but with services limited to residents “.

We’ve had a booking for a while now and it’s due to come up in the next few weeks. Everyone feels it’s not right to go to it but not sure what the policy wil be when it comes to cancelling and if we’d get a refund. Would like to be clear on the government policy before calling the operator so we might have some idea of wherever we stand regarding cancellations/postponement. Thanks

Depends when you booked it. If you booked it after the pandemic started then public health restrictions being applied during this period wouldn't entitle you to a refund as COVID and the restrictions that come with it are foreseen.

If you booked it prior to the beginning of the pandemic then you'll get your money back.

This was my understanding of it when I looked in July. Open to correction now. I've a similar type of booking coming soon myself in rented accommodation with a deposit paid. Doubt I'll get it back.

Places won't take people now with the current restrictions in place.

They will actually. Over the phone and cash in hand.

Fair enough. I've a booking for 15 people in rented accommodation and if we don't budge from level three at the end of October I've been told they won't take us.

Does anyone know who to go to to report indoor dining in north dublin

So in our new level 3 and three quarters...

No household visits. I assume it's still ok to have tradespeople (e.g. a plumber) in the house? We just bought a new old house and a lot of things need fixing.

Are the tables at least 2 metres apart?

They are obviously trying to protect their livelihoods. I would leave them be.

I normally would but it’s in the back of a tiny shop and they are all squished together with no masks on. I was shocked when I saw it. Just with most people trying to do the right thing.
