Golf and the Coronavirus

There's no covid talk allowed on the golf forum, so I'll see if there's any golf talk allowed on the covid forum.

What do people reckon the new restrictions will mean for golf? I can't decide what i think they'll do. On the one hand, golf is as low risk an activity as there can be. On the other, because a few people will arrive in cars together, share buggies and the like, there is a risk to it. It could be shut down. The likes of that tullamore crowd and the oireachtas golf society make it more likely to see the game shut down, but I'm hoping it will be one of the last things to go.

I don't see the issue with being able to pay golf by yourself or with people of the same household. No different to going for a walk.
I can understand no competitions or clubhouses open etc but no reason golf could not continue to be played.

Sports should be essential, full stop. Including gyms. It is a relatively harmless respiratory virus FFS and we have a pretty fat population who need to sort themselves out.

I think if its level 5 and individual training is allowed, then i see no reason why courses would have to close like the last time, individual golf is a depressing though, however its better than closing courses completely.
If its level 4, which i think is much more likely, no change to golf, other than club house being closed etc

They might be collateral damage which would be a pity - we should be encouraging people to get exercise and socialise in small groups outside. Golf seems like as good an outdoor activity as any, although I don't know if golf is played over Winter?

Indoor places for socialising have to close unfortunately, I don't see any real alternative at this point.

Not sure the clubs can stop people from car-pooling, other than asking people not to do it. There might need to be extra parking provided as a consequence - you'd hope planners would be lenient if a few unofficial parking areas were opened for the duration of this pandemic.

problem with that is more FAT ----> more FATalities.

Extremely low risk activity. Outside, small groups, own equipment, large open spaces, people using their own transport to get to the club, safety measures in place.
