It was a poor call to keep the test application process open during lockdown IMO.

Apparently their only solution has been to have testers do an extra test or 2 per day. Surely they’re going to need to find some other solution to get through the backlog? Particularly if we end up in a further lockdown level that knocks the process back again.

What that solution would be I don’t know. It’s a difficult one. Certainly not an amnesty as I’ve seen casually suggested. But for example, let’s say anyone who’s done their 12 EDT and sat a test before (without failing miserably) does a much condensed version of the test? Surely they could rattle through double the amount of retests in that case while still maintaining the integrity of the licence. I’m brainstorming but, let’s say, ignore all the pre-drive checks if they passed them last time and do 50-60% of a standard local route instead of a full one?

I reckon this backlog and wait time is going to lead to more people just chancing it on the roads before long. The process is already very long as it is. And it’s all well and good saying they’ll get caught, but we know the majority won’t and obviously this could become a big issue.
