National Tree Day

Just watching the news, and they had a segment about national tree day...

They mentioned an initiative about giving trees to schools to plant to increase the trees and biodiversity...

But they are Scott's pine, which as I believe aren't native... would it make more sense to offer native tree's on this initiative

scots pine are native; they were believed to have gone extinct about 200 years ago (IIRC), but about ten years ago a stand was found in clare which was judged to have been ancient (i think a nearby bog had an unbroken pollen record for scots pine pollen)

My point is an old one made many times over the years by better informed people than I, that environmental groups should have clear water between themselves and the polluters. Corporations like Tetra Pak and Wrigley's gain some sort of respectability by association with environmental groups; back in the 1970s it was property developers that An Taisce cosied up to with large Ads from said developers in their magazine.
