    Focus revs up for a second or 2 mostly when going up a hill and then back to normal. Sometimes slight chug when accelerating. It’s not the clutch seems something minor anybody got any ideas on fix please?

    Could be anything.
    Petrol or daysul?

    Maybe try a clean of the throttle body.

    1.4 petrol do you think it’s something simple

    I can't say, sorry.

    Try a few things, starting from small and cheap/free.

    * clean throttle body.
    * change fuel filter
    * check the hoses in engine bay for signs of wear/cracks

    You say your car is revving up as your going up a hill- is the engine revving and the car also accelerating?- or is the engine revving and the car speed staying constant.

    Engine rev car staying same but it can happen flat road too it’s deffo not the clutch. The car revs up high then drops back but it is accelerating at normal rate

    Can chug a little bit too when I’m accelerating from a stop position

    Absolute guess from me here but have you checked the spark plugs and leads?

    Why do u think it is definitely not the clutch?
    Engine and wheel speed are directly related.

    If your revs increase and your road speed doesn't, (and you don't have your foot on the clutch pedal) then it is pretty much definitely the clutch!

    Focus issues inlet manifold air intake under plastic manifold collapses and draws in air erratic tick over,miss in engine could be leads coil pack plugs.Water in around plug leads ,green mold on plug tips or on coil will give you a slight chug/miss

    Take off in first. Go straight to 3rg gear instead of 2nd. Floor it. If the revs increase disproportionately to the road speed, it's the clutch.

    The revs increased. Why I say I don’t think it’s the clutch is because this has being happening for months now and nothing has got worse. It’s not that bad it just noticeable when driving

    Really? It’s being like this since February and not got worse and it’s the clutch? 2005 focus would hardly be worth putting a new clutch in would it

    Another way to check the clutch is to try to take off in 4th gear.
    Car should try and then stall because it's too weak to take off in 4th.
    If it doesn't stall it means there isn't enough friction between the friction plates and they need changing.

    Look your clutch is worn- its still driving though.

    If you want to toast it altogether do the "floor it hard in third"/ "try start move off in 4th" etc. which is all fine advice for a quick diagnosis, but will shorten whatever life is left in it.

    The clutches on them are not a huge job, youd get it done I reckon for around 400€- but unless you plan on driving up the alps pulling a trailer of sand it will prob last another few months, just dont dog it. (accelerate hard etc- particularly on inclines- avoid engine laboring etc)

    Decide then if its worth doing etc.
    Marty.
