Any advice on sturdy comfortable work shoes or boots, steel toe capped probably the best ?

    Where to get? Best quality?

I've been using Dunlop for the last few years; they do the trick: https://ie.sportsdirect.com/dunlop-safety-on-site-steel-toe-cap-safety-boots-181063#colcode=18106304

Id recommend Dickies and warn to stay well clear of JCB that B&Q sell.

Haix boots are one of the hardest wearing and come with a 12 guarantee. They are about 160-260 euro depending on spec from what I’ve seen. They do take breaking in though. Snickers do a boot too that are comfortable but don’t last as well as haix. Dunlop, jcb and all those 40-80 euro boots are nearly all dirt. Desalt do a good boot if your mainly kept dry and are comfortable.

Cofra have a good range of work boots. Reasonably priced and very comfortable. Cost between 60 to 100 euro.

That was my reaction too but then I reminded myself that there are all kinds of budgets out there, and we don't know what vic's budget is so the professional grade option might be fine for him.

For my DIY / smallholding farm perspective the Dunlop boots do just fine. Each pair lasts about two years depending on the abuse level.

My boss was foaming at the mouth in his praise for Muck Boots. Always going on about them. I was sick and tired of finding a hole in the foot of my umpteenth pair of barely worn black boots. So, I bought a pair of Mucks.

Fantastically comfortable! Then, I'm walking down the track here, with my neighbour, avidly enthusing about my new boots. I say, " And ye don't get bloody holes appearing in These! :D "

With that, he glances down at my feet and says; " Well, That one's got a hole in it. "

Yes! Buy locally ~ having tried a particular pair on. Both feet! Or, step up a size for mail order. Steelies, particularly, can be an absolute nightmare in this respect, can't they? :(

I have wide feet (One wide foot?) I've found there's really no way round this. We can't just go for any particular brand.

Are these for men or for women?

Why safety boots cannot he made comfortable and last 12 months is beyond me. I’d happily pay extra for such. It’s not as if they are being asked to split the atom.

    men

Half man half duck might be a better description :D

"ordinary" shoes for this creature need to be '4E' ( thats a US fitting that is much wider than UK 'H' ) better again if '6E' ( thats '4E' wide with extra depth to take orthotics )
