    Hi,

I’m thinking of buying a car in the north, Due to COVID I don’t want to travel to UK .Have no idea what the process is as I’ve never done this before . Are these the right steps to follow...

    Get RAC to check car
What is best way:exchange rate to pay for car?
Fill in V5C form ( is it then posted to you or is it supplied with car?)
Do l need to inform DVLA that I’m importing to republic ?
Can I NTC within 7 days with NI reg ?
Can I pay VRT & NOX online or do I need to call in to office ( are they even open to public?)

Finally , how much do reckon you could get this for....

    Thanks

Currency fair or Revolut would be best way the pay, avoid using any ROI bank to make the payments as rates are terrible.
You don't fill in V5C, dealer tears of export portion of it and hands the rest to you, without this you will have huge problems registering.
The export portion will inform DVLA.
NCT only required when car is 4 years old.
You need to make an appointment and then in person to pay the VRT and nox.
You get issued the Irish logbook when you pay motor tax on the car the first time.

Discounts are generally low, £250-£500 maybe.

Mechanical check is up to you
Revolut or Transferwise is best for paying
You need the logbook to import the car, no singing or sending it off to the DVLA
You don’t need to inform anyone your exporting the car. The seller can do this by sending the export slip on the logbook to the DVLA
Book an appointment within 7 days
VRT the car at local NCT centre within 30 days
    Tax and NCT the car
Generally cars are priced to sell in UK, maybe less so up North.
Make sure your actually getting value
You can do a VRT calculation here:

Ive only ever bought 1 car from Northern Ireland and that was 2 years ago. I couldn't find any of the usual suspects to do a car check for me up there. RAC, Dekra etc dont cover Northern Ireland and went with a private car engineer in the end that was recommended through a friend which worked out well as he found some small issues. You will be fine with a newer car with warranty, and unlike the UK you can drive up there to them.

Another small thing to note, MOTs are from 4 years old in NI v 3 years on mainland UK so that wont have an MOT to give you a little piece of mind.

Revolut is the way to go...
