Hi Guys,

Hoping to pull the trigger on a 48" OLED in the next couple of weeks - just wondering if you have any views on the SOny vs the LG TV's?

THanks,

Niall

Hi Niall.

Both are awesome televisions.

Spec wise they are very similar with both being 100Hz and both full 10 bit.

Both manufacturers add their own spin on things.
Sony have the likes of IMAX Enhanced brings the cinema home
Take the next step-up in picture quality by switching to IMAX Enhanced. Used with IMAX certified 4K HDR content, IMAX Enhanced uses their proprietary digital remastering technology (DMR) to deliver ultra-vivid images. If you want to recreate the look of the movie at the cinema, IMAX Enhanced gets you closer than ever.

Acoustic Multi-Audio and Dolby Atmos
Sony’s unique Acoustic Multi-Audio speaker system enhances the sync between what you see and what you hear. By placing two, sound positioning actuator speakers at the back of the TV, the sound precisely tracks the image. You get precision of sound, making the audio more life-like than ever. The speaker system is also compatible with Dolby Atmos – giving a more enveloping sound with Atmos recordings.

Netflix Calibrated Mode
If you’re a movie fan and use Netflix, you’ll love Netflix Calibrated Mode. This setting bypasses many of the TVs processors, giving you a picture that’s much closer to how the filmmaker’s originally intended.

LG add to theirs wireless surround sound with WiSA*
WiSA stands for Wireless Speaker & Audio. The system wirelessly streams sound up to 24bit 96kHz, 8-channels and includes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. WiSA is flexible as you decide which speakers you want and where you want them – they don’t even have to be from LG. Simply look for WiSA supported speakers and decide how you’d like your audio to sound. *Separate dongle purchase required.

Dolby Vision IQ – ultimate detail
Dolby Vision IQ takes Dolby Vision to the next level, making it the ultimate HDR-type picture processor. Dolby Vision IQ version uses data within the signal and light sensors inside the TV to adjust the picture quality for the best contrast. This improves the picture’s brightness, without ‘washing out’ the depth. You get a consistent picture quality, however light or dark your room is. Whether you’re watching a brightly lit sports event or moody movie, Dolby Vision IQ adjusts to suit.

See the picture exactly as originally intended, with Filmmaker Mode
If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.

Among others....

We have both on demo here at the store sitting side by side. Both are totally superb.
In my opinion the Sony has the more vibrant colours and its smart hub is much more in-depth.
LG at the moment have no catch up apps, although it using in the South Of Ireland this will not matter as these are unavailable due to being region locked.

The LG is amazing but if you can stretch to the Sony it is the one to go for.

Let me know your thoughts.

Kenny.
