Self Build Importing Windows

I'm currently pricing windows and sliders for my self build. I wanted to consider importing the windows myself, manage ordering, shipping and delivery onsite, then contract installation. But there seems to be significant risk at each stage of this. Has anyone on the boards successfully achieved this and are willing to share their story or supplier name by PM?

The big problem is what happens afterwards.

A high percentage of newbuilds with new windows installed need a service callout in the short term. Not necessarily installation issues either. Possible issues with the window itself.

Unless the windows are very specialist, the cost differential going abroad will not be huge if you price around Ireland.

I read somewhere recently of someone having done something similar and then encountering issues when the windows weren't nsai approved.

The issue is not whether they are NSAI certified but that a certified u-value and solar transmittance factor can be provided.
Without these the BER assessor will have to use default values in the assessment.

Ours came from abroad through an Irish agent. It worked out ok. But I think if I were doing again I'd probably strongly look at established Irish suppliers.

    Interesting that you say that

There must have been a price difference to tempt you to go abroad.

As someone who has experienced importing windows, why would you do differently in hindsight?
