    Hello,

I contacted local Audi dealer about service price. €389!!! Is this the going rate?

Car is 4 years old. About 90,000km on the clock (I forget exactly).

Is it better to go to an Audi approved dealer or will a run of the mill mechanic be grand?

389 is the price for a full service with Audi. Oil, air, fuel and pollen filters. They do an oil service for 199.

You do one then the other, major is due at 4 years/ 90k though if it's been serviced to Audi spec this far.

Any mechanic can service it. For a car so fresh though, it's probably good to keep main dealer stamps in the book and also if you need a goodwill claim in the future, which you may well.

I'd say a reputable independent would still be €300+ for oil, air, fuel and pollen.

Skoda minor service on a 2.0 TDI is €150 and €250 for a major including fuel filter.

Wonder if they’d do an Audi for that :)

Not worth it, give it to Audi

The last time I got a Skoda dealer to work on one of ours it came back with a set of wheel nuts loose  ( lucky to realise within a km that Clunk, Clunk, Clunk meant stop & check :D ).

OP, if you get Audi to do it there is some sort of arrangement with VAG Ireland that they will organise you a loaner if the car fails in the following 12 months.

Have a similar age Audi and recently got it serviced at a main dealer.

Car came out with four pages of work needed. Brought it to an independent audi specialist to double check and there were 2 items needed.

Some of the items Audi wanted were: €12 for a key fob battery (€1.49 for 4 in the shop) ; €6 for screen wash top up... had only got brake pads done 3 months before service and there was a change advisory due to 85% worn mark apparently.... brakes were fine as I'm good at that myself.

Anyways, they've turned me off going back for a service. I understand that they may not do this to every customer, but that is taking the pi$$.

I've a 6 year old Audi with 90k kms and it just went for its full service last week it was 250 euro with my cousin who is an indy BMW mechanic so that wasn't too bad. Ran diagnostics and checked everything on the car and all fine. I need tyres before the winter though even though they passed nct in March and I haven't done huge mileage since.
I wouldn't go near a dealership with an out of warranty car because you don't know the mechanic working on it and it's probably an apprentice. Plus all the extra advisory work you get from the up selling team.

I literally had the exact same experience of that. Never again. Decent independent is the way to go.

What if an Audi garage had forgotten to tighten your wheel nuts? Would you recommend the OP go to a Porsche garage because that’s the standard they all work to?

€389 to fit the same parts and do the same checks (I guess bar plugging the car into the magic Audi computer) as a Skoda garage will do for €250 is bolloxology.

You’re paying for the experience of hanging around a nicer showroom. Car is out of warranty either way.

Complete rubbish. It's a wonder you didn't wait for a warning light to come on on the dash, photograph it and start a thread on it here:cool::cool:

Id recommend sticking with audi for oil change only and refuse all other work.
That way you get main dealer service record, a decent inspection highlighting any major issues plus if you need goodwill, they will just look to see if you have had regular services.

I did this recently. 500 euro for next two services. Will do for next 4 years. Grand value.

3 services including the gearbox! Last time I got the winter plan which was 299 for 2 oil services, wipers and brake fluid flush...

I find them brilliant for parts too, I picked up a set of Mudflaps for 99 euro last month!
