Looking at getting small bore A3 TFSI instead of going diesel : mileage doesn't warranty diesel palaver.

    Currently 2 in the running: a 1.4TFSI and a newer 1.0TFSI

And general experience of both: the good/bad/ugly. Coming from an 06 Clio 1.2, so don't be comparing it to my usual fare !!

I see one in Trinity Motors in Wexford, so any views on them welcome too, by PM if preferred.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I had the pleasure of having both engines in Octavia's the 1.4 was by far the nicer engine. Smoother, more powerful and much better on juice.

I'd see could I get a test drive in both tbh. You'd imagine the 1.4 would be better but that may not be correct.

getting test drives not proving to be easy: can't really rock up to garage A just for a test drive in a car for sale in garage B. Wouldn't be fair really.

I've driven a 1.4TFSI in VW myself and thought it good, but no experience at all of the 1.0

My thinking is that garages love people taking test drives and it is the opportunity they need to do their job and convert the prospect - even if they’re ‘not interested in buying anything today’

The 1.0 is a 3 cylinder if that something that might bother you.

The 1.0 comes in 95 and 110 to guises I think. Reviewers seem to think the 110 hp 1.0 is the one to go for over the 1.4, whether they say that because is may be just the more popular mid range one or due to the engine itself I dunno. Thinking of a Skoda Kamiq with either of those as well for the mother so interested to hear of any opinions on either engine

I hated the 1 litre from the start, rough around town and the stop start was horrible. It was disappointingly thirsty too. I had the 1.4 before that and it was beautiful, so smooth and bags of torque, always in the mid 40's mpg, 47 on a long spin, both cars were dsg.
