Any recipes for buns or cakes to cook/bake around Autumn/Halloween time? That leave a nice aroma and are fun for kids to help out with?

The bake off a few years ago had a toffee-apple caramel cake. It might not be the kind of recipe to do with children though because it is a complicated recipe, but nice for a special occasion. And it tastes amazing.

You can't beat an apple crumble, it's autumn in a bowl.

Stew a few cooking apples (3-4 big ones is plenty) with enough sugar to sweeten and place in an ovenproof dish. Throw in some blackberries for extra autumn feels if you have them.

    The topping:

    6oz flour (plain or self-raising)

    4oz butter

    4oz brown sugar

    4oz porridge oats

Rub the flour and butter together, then add sugar and oats and rub them in a bit. Spread it over the apple and bake for 20-30 minutes at 180°

Came here to say apple pie, but crumble is good, too.
Or combine them into an apple crumble pie.

I'm a biiiig fan of pumpkin cake, too. The pumpkin puree is easily made by boiling the pumpkin flesh (everything you have once you scraped out the pumpkin before carving it) and giving it a spin in a blender.

Yes - the amount above will make two pies if you put shortcrust pastry underneath :)
