Question about VRT and purchaser/registered owner

A family member is trying to register a car bought from the UK at the moment. She is going through all the forms required for the VRT and is a bit overwhelmed as she is not good with these things.

They've asked me to help so I'm going through all the documentation to make sure they have everything before going to the NCT centre (there isn't an appointment on the system until October! so might be late fees involved?)

Anyway, my question is regarding the registered owner. Her partner purchased the car in the UK and brought it over. His name is on the Invoice from the dealer but she wants to register the car in her name.

Will it be rejected for VRT as the invoice isn't in her name?

Her partner could always scribble out a hand written note for the sale of the car to her the day after he bought it.

Is there not a section for this on the form? It doesn't matter whose name the invoice is in...it's the date that's important not the name.

Yes that's true. I didn't think of that. But if there's a more official way of doing it I'd prefer that.

There is a section on the form VRTDPD2 where you can give the details of the third party that purchased and imported the vehicle into the state. Would that be where you would give his name and address?

Yes you should but it doesn’t make a difference, they’ll still register the car in her name regardless
