Looks ridiculous, is that just because it's electric ? the Golf looks better why ?

Granted the interior of the Golf is a lot nicer.

The id.3 is really nice to drive though. Steering is light but that's the same with most car manufacturer these days including a 1 and 3 series.

Don't be so childish it looks dreadful anyone who actually likes cars can see that. Interior and exterior the golf wins hands down. If I go EV next time around I'll go for the Enyaq.

Childish ? it was a genuine question. Don't be an idiot.

If you like ultra boring then the Golf is your car, at least we agree the interior is miles better lol.

I actually prefer the interior of my base ID.3 to a base Golf, but I like a minimalist interior..

I'm not so familiar with the base interior of the Golf but the ones I've seen were probably not the base they were much nicer than the id.3 anyway.

Well the first part of your "genuine" question, smacks of a sulky baby type answer/question. Are you driving an I'd.3?

No, take out the "d" and that's what I drive. :D

Your BMW I3 is a PHEV though, so probably closer to the GTE or hybrid of the thread title, that the full fat BEV, ID.3.

But agreed the interior of the ID.3 is very budget & a big step down from an eGolf, IMO.
The exterior is OK & overall, I like it. If it wasn't for a Model 3, Mrs. K would be in an ID.3 now.

It's purely personal preference but I think the ID.3 looks pretty good, especially with those 19" wheels. The front is a weak point and the interior is a bit 'trendy' for my liking but it's not a bad looking car. I like that it doesn't scream EV with little 16" wheels or a plastered over bumper like the Kona.

Getting back to the eHybrid. It's a good option over the 1.5 DSG for someone wanting a bit more power without spending an extra €8k or so for a GTE but I think 4.9% is going to be too high of a cost difference. The DSG and 1.5 aren't very popular options and the GTE being a more affordable option than a GTI also sells very low numbers.

Then you have to consider how many people will be swayed by the ID.3. I was firmly set on buying a 1.5 Golf next year while keeping an eye on the eHybrid. Now I'm firmly set on an ID.3 and will only consider the 1.5 if I absolutely have to for some reason.

Of course this is pure speculation, I'm interested to see proper PCP figures next year. I could be wrong. The eHybrid is still a good option, don't get me wrong, I just think the steep APR will hurt it.

I thought you were keeping your car and looking to refinance the settlement. Source: PCP thread.

My partner will be buying the car so the plan is to refinance it until she is ready to clear the balance.

Got a call from VW and was told that the seai grant for the E-Hybrid will be available for 2021. Bit of good news.

I see that this is gone up about €1200 since March 1st, in latest VW price list, about 3%. P1sser. Haven't really looked at the rest of the Golf range to see if it's across the board.

Anyone go for one of these, any experience of lead times etc.? Are all VW prices gone up?

VAT went back up to 23% on 1/3/21.

    Yeah that's the VAT change.

I ordered a GTE back in December, expecting to pick it up by the end of the month all going well. Got delayed somewhat due to Covid and the parts shortages.

Took delivery of mine yesterday, loving it so far. Collected it with about 8km range in the battery, did about 2.0l/100km average over 60km.

Brought it out last night with a nearly flat battery, in sports mode and being quite liberal with the acceleration, mixture of B roads and motorway and got about 5.5l/100km. I am very impressed, even when watching the dials I cannot audibly hear the engine switching on and off.

    Well wear.

Small update on this, done about 250km over the last 10 days (thanks to Covid not much driving is being done) but I seem to be averaging between 2-2.5l/100km. I think it should do better than this but I've been generally been leaving it in hybrid mode on country roads and switching to e-mode for urban areas.

In hybrid mode it seems to run the engine a lot more than I would expect, even in stretches where the car should be able to coast no problem such as driving downhill or something's even coming to a stop at a junction the engine will stay running.

I'm not sure if it's trying to use sat nav data or something but it's not doing a stellar job of picking the best power type at any given moment.

The battery range is quite good though, the indicated range seems accurate, maybe even a little on the conservative side. 50+km should be readily achievable assuming you're not absolutely gunning it.

Do you use GTE mode much? If I remember correctly, with the Mk7.5 this kept a bigger minimum charge on the battery so hybrid was available at all times whereas normal mode would deplete the battery and run on the engine for the rest of a journey. GTE mode seemed to have better economy overall.

I'd love to know what sort of economy you'd get in just hybrid mode. Most posts about fuel consumption use as much EV as possible to get super low fuel consumption but I wouldn't be keen on charging a hybrid daily, at that rate just get an EV.

I've read a few posts online suggesting if left in hybrid mode a charge lasts as long as a tank of petrol, which would be good for those not wanting to charge every day.

I think the equivalent of GTE mode on the MK8 would be just the combo of hybrid mode and have the driving mode set to sport. I've only used that very briefly so I couldn't give an accurate estimate, I'd be surprised if it proved more economical.

I did a 20km on hybrid mode the other day, mixture of country roads and urban driving and averaged about 4.0l/100km. Didn't use a whole lot of battery so I reckon you'd get decent economy even if you just charged it once or twice a week.
