The Lost DNA - Manchán Magan on the revelations of our past

Anyone catch this? Sounds very interesting.

Some of the findings, such as those revealed by bones in the central chamber at Newgrange are changing everything we thought we knew about religion in Europe 5,000 years ago, while others offer more subtle insights, such as the DNA found at the Poulnabrone Dolmen in the Burren which reveals the remains of a child with Down’s Syndrome. This is the earliest example of Down's Syndrome anywhere on earth, but it also offers a poignant glimpse at how Stone Age farmers 5,800 years ago had the ability, resources and compassion to care for those with mental disabilities.

Some of the findings mentioned in the show were discussed here six years ago albeit with a more European emphasis. Amazing what you’ll find on Boards.ie

An oldie but a Goldie. Obviously the key bits talked about in Episode 1 are to do with recent papers published.

They didn't go into much detail on the DNA from the Ranelagh site in Roscommon (episode 2) other then speaking in generalities eg. signs of multi-generational kindred group usage etc.

This is due to the fact that there has been any papers published on the site yet, however some talk about various Y-chromosome haplogroups have been shared in various lectures/presentations.

Watched episode 1. Loved it. Will try catch rest next weekend. The idea of dark haired, dark skinned, blue eyed Mesolithic inhabitants of Ireland is arresting. Interesting the way the DNA evidence gives support to the tales in Leabhar Gabhàla Eireann. The continuity with Mangan wearing the same white anorak is amusing. How does he keep it clean!! Lovely bit of filming round the dolmen. And Mount Sandel. Damn you drones, I don't want to love you because you are cheating but you make things look so good!
