No logbook

Long story short I had a look at a car today, private sale. Usual rigmarole, deal all but done asked for a look at the logbook. None, his borther has it in the truck won't be back until tonight! Says he'll take my details fill it in and send it off himself.

No chance mate. Give me a ring if it shows up and we'll talk.

Rang me back half an hour later all bull**** saying take a copy of his ID ect.

In hindsight he was very easy on the haggle. Tried to string me along around meeting times ect so I'd nearly half a day committed to this deal. Thank God I bailed out when I did. Some other poor misfortune could have been rightly stung.

Question, what was the story here do ye think? Stolen? False plates? 4k car surely not finance owed or something?

Did you put reg into Motortax.ie to check if change of owners in last 3 months ?

Did the registration correspond to the VIN number?

A link to the advert would help give the heads up to other potential buyers

Motortax said it was transferred to dealer recently. That's all I got.

If the car is Greenlight verified, it means the seller entered the VRC serial number. You can choose to exclude cars that haven’t been verified when searching for cars.

This particular car isn’t, and while it’s not professional to try and sell a car without the VRC present, it doesn’t mean they’re pulling a scam either.

No greenlight. There may be a genuine reason that he didn't have the log book with the car when selling it, plenty of red flags.
I was just interested to hear what others thought.
