Hi all, as the title says I have a project to do which involved designing a Dashcam. It does not have to work but I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions as to what feature they would like to see in a dashcam.
I'm running through ideas in my head and I'm imagining a camera that is incorporated in the rear view mirror, universal to fit all cars, no suction cup stuff to deal with etc.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I'm open to all suggestions, I'd like to design something that has an edge over anything available on the market, thanks

Is this for a college or school project?

I work in the automotive camera development and can answer specific questions you may have in a PM.

If it was a retrofit camera id suggest a small form factor that mounts with adhesive to the windscreen , a rear camera that does the same but is not noticeable to attract thieves or get in the way, integration with the cars own display or viewable over wifi (cars dot need a new screen in there) obd values for brake pedal and indicators embedded in the video (so if you say you were braking / indicating and a crash happens that it backs up your version of events)

Great ideas there Eric Cartman, certainly food for thought.
Keep all ideas coming folks, thanks so much

For a retrofit model I would suggest avoiding any replacement of the existing mirror as many already have auto-dimming and all kinds of built-in complications such as links to memory seats etc. By the time you wold get any traction on development or sales, even more standard vehicles will have moved in this direction.

Must be small and slanted to attach directly to windscreen or rear screens jsut like manufacturers are doing now with their camera \ radar units.

Black all over so as to not attract undue attention. Good coding system so is very difficult to reuse if stolen. Maybe integrated tracker as well.

Something discreet that attaches directly to windscreen with a wireless connection to the obd port to collect telemetry.

    🙈🙉🙊
