Double or triple glazed? Getting a alu p slider in our extension. I'm aware that this door is heavier to open than the lift and slide. So thinking I may have yo go for double glazing. u value double is 1.3, triple is .8. Room is South facing. Worried triple too heavy for alu p slider. Going with MJ

Even south facing? Why? Doesn't that only make sense if the rest of the extension, and indeed the whole house, is isolated to the same standard?

The glass is the weakest part of the build IMO.
Always buy the best you can afford.

    Even south facing? Yes

Extension and any house built since the building regulations were introduced has better wall insulation Than a triple glazed unit.

I'm more worried about the weight of the triple glazed glass on the Ali u door. I have read of a few people having trouble with sliders because of the weight of the door.

Yes it is problem if the door is too heavy, especially the mini junior models.
The other question is how many days in the year will it be actually sliding: I presume e its not for regular access

Oh it would be be used very often..when you say the other doors, sorry can't think what you called them, would that include Alu p doors? Order has to go in tomorrow as waiting for them will hold up the build

Well for regular use I would look at double french doors.
Are you wedded to the mini juniors?

We have 2 x aluminum triple glazed sliders from the most common supplier. Total width of each opening is 3.8m so slider is approx half of that. We don't find them heavy, they slide well and my 4 year old can open and close them.
