Mystery scratches- possible causes?

So bought a new black Camry early July. Love it. But after a fortnight noticed 2 hairline straight scratches on drivers door just above sill. Maybe 3 cm long, just about feel with nail so only top coat.Had driven narrow country roads, but thought drivers side unusual. Hadnt heard scratching, and was careful.
Today noticed another on rear passenger, same side, again just above sill, 3 cm long, linear, defo only surface. Wash car myself, wasnt there last week, and haven't driven country roads in 10 days.
Now doesn't really bother me, no one else would notice, but flummoxed as to cause...hardly a chipping...I have mud guards, and seems too linear.
Any suggestion as to cause, and possible prevention?

Scratching it while washing it be my guess. Black car easy scratched while washing it

Started washing myself start of lockdown, previous car ( and wifes).did research.
Yeah I accept black car more susceptible to scratches. Use 2 bucket method, wash alloys first, check micro fibre cloth between-thino I'm careful.. Yes know it's a possibility, but not a scratch elsewhere?

Probably happened during washing. Tendency for contaminates, tar/grit down that low on the door and when you wash it just gets rubbed across the paint work.
Unless you are very detailed with products like iron-x and others ones for removing tar then I would guess that is what caused it.
Just be thankful you don’t use the garage washers.

While it’s half the price of your car I previously had a new black corolla. I had a huge amount of these scratches after a year or two. Really obvious in direct sunlight. I’d driven fairly fecklessly a few times down a narrow boreen and I assume I picked them up there from hitting brush. The Toyota paint seemed particularly weak to me. I’d previously driven other cars in a similar fashion and never noticed any damage to the paint.

Agree on modern paint generally...previous car, a leon, would get scratched by hitting a butterfly!
It's more the location I find strange, particularly as on driver's side...not a mark elsewhere. Previous posts on washing make sense!

New cars get damaged all the time and not just minor scratches.
