Part Time Camper Maintaining Commercial Classification

I would like to know if it is possible to do a minimal camper conversion on a van that is privately insured without the requirement of reclassifying the vehicle as a campervan? I have quotes for private insurance on a small van that I'd like to add a bed and some storage to, but I am worried that this may cause issues for invalidating the insurance policy, requiring VRT payment, failing CVRT, or being unable to get motor tax?

I was thinking of designing it in such a way as to be able to remove most of the camper parts (i.e. the bed frame and some storage) for the CVRT test.

    Thanks in advance.

The only issues I can see would be with your insurance and declaring any modifications to them and also using a commercial vehicle for personal reasons if that's not covered by insurance and / or tax.

The CVRT testers won't pay much attention to the state of any conversion.

There are thousands of people in surf buses all over the country like that guards seem to turn a blind eye as long as theres no passenger seats or windows in the back. Have been a couple of blitzes I know of by customs for vrt dodging over the years notably in Laois and one in Sligo. Buh it seems to be rarer than youd expect they are more concerned with agridiesel.
