Health is the true wealth

My father passed away peacefully tonight after a six year battle with cancer. A bastion of great resolve and patience, he hardly ever complained. If I can be half the man he was then I have succeeded in life. Treasure your loved ones and the moments you share with them, they pass by quickly and grow in significance with time. I'm shattered but relieved his suffering is at an end. The fond memories and honourable example he set I will carry with me evermore. All I can say in finality is don't treat your health like a fickle mistress, visit the GP for occasional screening and cast away any doubt where possible.

Sorry to hear about your father and I hope you and your family are managing ok during what must be a very hard time. You're so right about the screening advice. Dads are irreplaceable, but from your posts here, it seems like you're well equipped to carry on his legacy and I'd say he was very proud of you.

Sorry to hear of your father’s passing Bertie. You seem like a decent skin. I bet your Da was very happy to be yours. The loss is forever, but the raw grief won’t last long if you only think about the joy of knowing and loving him and sharing good times together. Mind yourself.

My sympathy for your loss. You say you are relieved that his suffering of six years is over. I can understand that. It was a very difficult time for your father and for you.
My mother was in a nursing for seven years and I was happy when she died. That is a terrible thing to say but I had seen her deteriorate week by week for all that time.

Sorry for your loss, but you gave a lovely tribute to your father there. I lost my father last year, but even now, I might see a GAA story and think "I must mention that to Da..." but then I realise I can't. The next few days will probably be tough, but the important thing is to keep all the good memories alive.

BH your post hit me in the chest. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I lost mine over a year ago to brain cancer. Dads are very special and I still expect him to walk in the door. Hope you get some comfort knowing that he is always with you.
