Samsung J3 & Lottery.ie App

Have a Samsung J3 with Android v9, I went to the play store to get & install the latest Lottery.ie App, new App v4 with shake & play.

The App is not appearing in the App list on the play store on the Samsung J3.

The App does appear in the App store for two other Samsung phones we have, A5 & A70

Why is the App not appearing at all in the play store when accessed using the Samsung J3?

The App requires Android 5 or higher and the J3 is on Android 9

Any suggestions as to how to get the Lotto App onto the Samsung J3?

Can you open the app via the Play Store? Does the app appear in your app drawer if you change the launcher?

Not sure what you mean by "change the launcher" Aristotle.

The problem is, when I go to the Play Store via the Samsung J3, the lottery.ie App does not appear in the list of Apps when I search. There is no app to even try to launch or install.

Ah, I thought you meant you installed the app but couldn't find it in your app drawer.

Is it possible you have set the region on this phone to something other than Ireland? What happens when you click this link via the browser on that phone? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agency.lotto Or through your computer? Does your phone appear in the list of phones when you click on that link via your computer?

Google Play > side menu > account > country and profiles set to Ireland?

    Even more confused now.

When I follow that link on the phones browser it takes me to the App in the App store but tells me the App is installed, the App is not installed.

I cleared the cache in Google services but it made no difference

Yes Basil3, it is set to Ireland.

When you say the app store you mean it redirects and opens the actual app "Play Store" or it merely opens a tab of the app store in your browser? If the former then you should see an "Open" button which will launch the app. If the latter then it just means the app is installed on at least one of your devices. If you click "installed" it will tell you if the J3 is compatible or not (the phone will be greyed out if it's not compatible).

OK, following the above, it looks like the J3 is not compatible  even though it has Android v9.

Still curious as to why the App would not be listed in the Play store search though?

If it's not compatible then it doesn't come up in the Play Store app, only through the Play Store website.

I never new that Aristotle, I just tried it & you are correct, the Lotto App shows up if I search the Play Store via the phone Browser but it does not show if I search via the Play Store App on the phone.

Ah well, if it's not compatible so be it.

If the phones Android version is 4 versions higher than the minimum required for the Lotto App, I wonder what about the phone could be making it incompatible?

Is it the phone that's not compaible with the App or the App is not compatible with the phone? :D

Just checked the Lotto site and they list the Android phones compatible with their new App... All 4 of them  Surely with of all the Android devices in Ireland, the 4 listed compatible phones (all Samsungs) can't be right?

    It's a weird one, alright.

I've pulled the lottery apk from one of my phones via adb and uploaded to OneDrive, then installed it on one of my other phones. I'll PM you the link to the apk and you can try to install on your device if you like. It will tell you whether the app isn't compatible, or whether it's just not visible for you on Google Play.

I was in the same boat, so I contacted lotto support - I have a Samsung S10. My device is not supported.
    Please note Lottery response below.

Thank you for contacting the National Lottery with your query.

Below I have listed the supported Android versions and devices that our supports.

    Android Versions
    · Android 5, 6 and 7

    Supported Android devices
    · Samsung S5
    · Samsung S6
    · Samsung S7
    · Samsung S6 Edge

We do understand at times the Application can work perfectly and then suddenly can start causing issues due to the device you are using being unsupported.

If you need further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards,

    Lea

    Thank you Basil3,

I got that apk & will try to install as soon as I get my hands on the phone & let you know how it goes.

If you are still rocking a J3 then you deserve an upgrade anyway, get a newer phone ðŸ˜

Have you not seen the supported devices list? They only support old phones :pac:

The phone is working perfectly fine & doing absolutely everything the owner requires of it, with the exception of this new Lotto App & the only reason that was wanted was to have the ability to scan tickets. The phone is in pristine condition too.

Maybe you have surplus cash to throw away on having the latest & greatest? I would not entertain purchasing a new phone for something as insignificant as the lotto App, wasteful at its best me thinks.

Hope you are enjoying rocking whatever it is you are rocking ;)

Tested with a bunch of phones i have about the house:

    - Vodafone Smart Ultra 6
    - Huawei P8 Lite
    - Samsung S6 Edge+
    - Huawei Mate 10 Pro
    - Samsung Note 9
    - Google Pixel 3a

The only device that can't see the Lottery app on Google Play is the Smart Ultra 6, and it also won't install the sideloaded apk. No idea what criteria they set to block certain devices.

Can someone share the APK with me so I can side load it on Samsung S10 ?

I wonder what criteria they set to block certain devices too.

I always thought that the main player in supporting Apps was the Android version.

Some Apps I know require other Specs to be present on the phone such as the Leap Card App which requires the phone to have NFC in order to read the card.

I wonder if the addition of the shake & play feature on the latest Lottery App is a culprit? How does that work? Does the App recognise the orientation of the phone similar to the way you can view the screen in portrait or landscape mode or does it work on something connected to the GPS?

I just tried the apk for the J3 that Basil3 kindly provided & while it did start the install it finished by telling me that the App was not installed.
