Test approaching soon. Appreciate any tips to help.

    - Is Push Pull method required to be done on test. I cross hands?

    - Reversing around corner : I always park it very wide and take very long amount of time. Can this alone fail me?

Shall I lower left mirror to keep track of kerb?

    - Do we look right side first, centre and then left or left first and then right? Reversing to the left?

Didn't your instructor go through this?

Crossing hands was a big no-no when I was learning.
Very wide - how wide ? Do you cross the centre line?
Yes you can move your mirror, but remember to put it back.

One Instructor said it is mandatory.

Other for Pre test said it is not. lol

    Thanks for responding.

I’ve also heard never to cross your hands on the steering wheel. When exactly are you being told to do that ? If your not so wide that you are crossing the line, you should be ok ..

Its not a big no-no at all. It still isnt best practice but it isnt treated as badly as it was in the past. Driving theory has now moved on and (as far as the test is concerned) so long as you maintain full control of the wheel and the crossing the hands doesnt impact your driving (like being unable to turn any more because your hands are crossed/twisted) then no fault will be given.

A G3 fault will only be given if you cross over the centre of thew road. For length of time - very rare people get a G3 for this unless moving and stopping every few inches and taking 5 mins or so

Nobody would specifically say to cross hands. Quarter to 3 positions and feeding the wheel is still deemed the best. But often on pretests you focus on areas that will pick up faults on a test and as crossing the hands occasionally isnt in this category (it is if its affecting driving) then most Pretest ADI's cut to whats most urgent

No I dnt end on the other side. Distance to kerb is greater than what it should be in final position.

I cannot get my tiny head around push pull and end up making other faults if I focus too much on it.

Seems aint that bad as I was thinking it is a certain fail. Test is few hours.

    Passed. Thanks for asking.

Managed to ensure I followed push pull for crucial 30 min. Luckily reversing was just about perfect. Got lucky on the day.

Bit late, but one instructor tried to force me to drive with push and pull absolutely awful. Never seen anyone drive like that before. You spend so long worrying about holding the steering wheel you can't concentrate properly. Never went back to him, found a much better instructor that never mentioned anything about me feeding the wheel through my hands.
