I'm looking at one of these for a 220 km daily commute.

Is there anything I should look out for, be wary of when viewing vehicle? The ones I've been looking at have between 60 and 80k kilometres.

Are there any known faults or issues with this model? What's the general consensus as a long commuter?

    TIA.

I've the 2014 saloon model which is the same car mechanically. One thing to defo look out for is the fact it comes in 150bhp and 190bhp. I have 190 and its fine, I can't fault the car in any way. If I was buying again I'd buy the avant like you are looking at, just for carrying my dogs. Only fault is the odd time the start /stop and the electronic handbrake fault light comes on but will be gone next time i start the car, no idea what's causing it but its no biggie.
Mine had 90k kms on it now I've had it from 60k kms and hasn't missed a beat. Comfortable on long spins I've had it 400kms + in a day a good few times and very happy with how it performed. Mine is auto. Never drove the manual but my neighbour has a 2016 manual and likes it too. I wouldn't go manual though.

S Line is the nicer looking car but SE will be more comfortable. Holy grail is S Line with adaptive suspension but very rare to find one. Mine is S Line and its fine, will be dearer than an SE like for like though. Any further questions, give me a shout.

Thanks Heres Johnny for the info, very useful. Meant to say I'm looking at S tronic, no manual for me.

    What's the economy like?

    I’ve had one for a year now. Bought at 60k km and now c 84k km on it now. I do like it but in one year had the following fixed under warranty (all happened separately);

Emissions light (can’t remember how this was fixed, minor enough)
    Ad blue error
Left wing mirror glass fell off
Front CV boots (wear and tear so fair enough)
Right wing mirror glass fell off (real head scratcher after the left one)

    Out of warranty now and had to get the following fixed;

Fuel cap actuator replaced (common enough supposedly).
Some pump in the DSG box replaced (200 odd to fix).
Some corrosion on the exhaust clamp but doesn’t need to be replaced yet.

All somewhat minor but also a pain in the hole on a low mileage car with one previous owner and not a single scratch on it. I do like the car overall but could be tempted to trade in next year maybe. Feel a bit of dread waiting for a warning symbol to pop up again.

Start stop system has been cutting off when restarting recently. It’ll break my heart if that’s a new issue.

Yeah, that all sounds like a proper hole buster for a fairly new car alright. I'd rather avoid all that sort of messing about!

I've had a Superb from new the last 10 years but it's starting to give wee niggly trouble now.

Yeah it’s a tough one. I do love it. It’s the black edition and is very well specced. There are tonnes of them on DoneDeal carzone with 200k Km plus. Maybe I’m unlucky. Maybe the quality has reduced in recent years.

Just anymore non wear and tear issues might push be towards looking at something else.

A5 Coupe, S-Line, Black Edition owner here. Also VAG enthusiast, worked on a number of different TDIs, etc.

Firstly, your mirror glass falling off isn't a mystery (just so you know), it's due to poor design from VW with a combo of heated mirror plastic surface and poor quality adhesive from factory. Over time the heat breaks the bond of the adhesive with repeated cycles causing cracking/failure over time and they pop off. Seen it loads of times, even with my own car. Some are unlucky enough for it to happen at 60mph and the glass shatters.

Good to know. I’d googled it at the time and no luck. When I noticed a wobble in the mirror for the second time I just instantly ripped it off while on the motorway. Passengers were a bit puzzled. Told them never mind, this thing happens.

    2015 2.0 TDI S LINE ULTRA 187BHP 5DR AUTO

I've had it almost 4 years and almost no issues. Replaced Oxygen sensor (~€60) and just changed front discs last month (132km).
I normally use Economy Driving setting and regularly get more than 50mpg on longer spins. It's not as responsive as Sport Driving setting but I'm not a boy racer anymore! In Sport mode, you could get as low as 30mpg and have a smile on your face permanently!!
Comfort: I've found it very comfortable.
The only drawback I see is that the boot is relatively narrow.

Nothing revolutionary to offer you here but a few things.

A diesel is perfect for a 220KM daily commute. It'll excel on the motorways and these engines are generally good news. I know people will say they can't touch the old 1.9 TDIs of the past but once they are looked after they will go to 150k miles without much drama. It's the rest of the car thats sometimes a lottery for things like electronics, suspension components (bushings etc) and niggly stuff. The S-Tronic gearboxes DO need to be serviced and looked after. Refer to your manual and make sure you meet the intervals, I've seen horror stories in the auto gearboxes in these cars with people forgetting/not realising they need to be serviced themselves.

Key with a TDI, especially the newer ones is to not 'baby' it. Once it's warmed up, feel free to be taking the RPMs to 3000 or 3500 so the entire system is worked, they respond better to it. Doesn't need to be everyday of the week but you get the picture. A weekly 'italian' tune.

An Audi isn't a bad car but be warned of the forementioned gremlins that may appear. One last tip, they DO not need to be repaired/serviced by Audi, they charge ridiculous prices for non ridiculous work.

Wife drives 2011 (same shape) manual sline 177bhp. I was driving it all last week around the west coast and got 1,020km to full tank of diesel.
It has 320k kms on the clock and has had usual wear and tear items replaced (No electrical gremlins yet fingers crossed).
I find it very comfortable and smooth to drive, on motorways especially.

Long term average for the car is 7.2 litres per 100km so thats 40mpg in the old way of calculating. Mix of commuting and long spins but mainly commuting. I'm sure you could get better out of it but I dont try really, I dont pay for my own diesel for a start.
One thing I forgot I just remembered when another poster mentioned his silly little things, the drivers door lock cover fell off, little plastic cap. Was only a fiver from Audi but I had to spray it myself getting correct spray paint before refitting it.

Apart from that, havent had the niggles the other poster had and we have had our cars for very much a similar time and mileage frame. I find quality good, although have to keep the bass down in sound system as it causes vibration noises from dash on speaker. Bit disappointing but thats about only poor bit of quality.

Workmate has a skoda superb 171 which I think is a great value car by comparison but the Audi just has that bit more quality going on, no hard scratchy surfaces like the superb and a bit quieter and more refined (doesnt fully justify price difference though)

Cheers lads, all good real world stuff there. I was hoping it might be a bit more frugal on the juice, the commute is 25 km primary and rest is Mway and dual carrigeway. I'd need 60 mpg realistically.

The comfort is a major draw compared to a similar year Superb. But as Johnny says, might not be justifiable.

Your not going to get 60 mpg from any big heavy car like an A6 Avant.

I think you're right there. Back down to A4 might do it though no?

The official motorway figures are about 60mpg but you are correct, not a hope of getting it in real life. On a motorway spin at limit I'd get it under 6 litres per 100kms which is about 48 mpg but unless you drive open motorways at 100 kmph you won't get 60mpg. What do you get in your superb OP? A friend claims 60mpg in his on motorway, but this is in a 2013 1.6 with 110bhp.

I've the 1.8 TSI which is punchy but thirsty. Steady 120 motorway is 8l/100 km. Mixed roads could be 10 or more. New commute demands better economy.

I have a 3 litre Black Edition saloon, it's been very reliable. Other than regular maintenance I've put two front shocks and an air con compressor into it. Really can't fault it, comfortable and plenty of power for daily driving
