Looking to buy a diesel in that age range, is one superior to the other. Just looking, the corollas seem to be making more money. Any reason for this other than lighter on fuel ? The MPG does not bother me, just reliability really

The Corolla is way smaller on the inside than the Avensis. Corolla is more sought after because it's got a smaller engine which people might find cheaper to insure. The Avensis is generally better speced though, nothing more miserable than a Terra spec Corolla. Avensis being 2.0 litre also has a bit more go in it over the 1.4 litre Corolla. Both are not totally bullit proof, the Avensis can suffer from injector problems and the Corolla can suffer from gearbox trouble (not sure if it's the 5 speed or 6 speed version). Corolla is a more simpler engine, it doesn't have a dual mass flywheel and only ones from 2011 onward got a DPF. In saying that neither really give trouble on the Avensis either unless it's got mega miles on it. I'd go for the Avensis for the extra comfort, power and spec. Just take note that there was an Avensis model change in early 2009.

ya the insurance would not bother me, going from a DC5 , so was leaning towards the Avensis if there were no real problems with them in that age range

Accords have taken a dip in price. If you’re not bothered by fuel economy, a 2.2 i-DTEC would be far nicer than an Avensis.

I'd recommend the Avensis from experience but get an Aura spec one as they're far nicer to spend time in.

Isn’t an Aura basically the same as a Terra just with alloys and fogs?

Strata is the one with basically the same spec as a 03-09 Avensis Luna.

Opps I actually meant a Luna. The trim level names mean nothing and I always confuse them. Bring back L, XL and GLX.

Luna was very rare at launch. I never even got to see one not to mind sell one.

There is no comparison at all, if you're going to spend any time driving, get the Avensis.

We've had both, the 131 Corolla diesel was a nasty POS, granted was a low spec model, but was no pleasure to drive at all.
Currently have a well specced 14 Avensis which while not a Rolls, is a quite pleasant to spend time. Even older ones I've driven are grand, from 2011 and 2012,certainly way ahead of the corolla in terms of comfort and performance.

Mine is a Luna. There seemed to be a big step up in quality of materials, fit and finish from 2013 onwards.

The Luna came down in price too I think. It was bonkers money in 2009 if I remember right.

Only real downside is that the tax is €570 vs €280 (ES) or €390 (EX) on a manual.

There is a small bit of a performance drop with the auto of course, but the Accord is a bit of a barge anyway so the auto suits it well. You’re eliminating the risk of DMF/clutch problems with the auto.

    The auto is rare enough.

Hey, I was looking at this thread because I'm interested in a Avensis but I've always liked the Accords, it's just such a pity so few of them are around now.

I spotted this one and seems to be in good condition

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/12-honda-accord-2-2-idtec-es-gt/25514186

    Any thoughts?

I was trying to find out why there's such a small second hand stock of the Accords as I thought they always had a great name. Something to do with the market not being viable and moving production away from the UK.
Do you think it's worth importing one? Or is it just asking for trouble if parts became an issue in a few years?

Looks good, it’s probably on the pricey side. Spec wise it’ll mainly be ES GT (that one) and EX GT which adds some nice goodies.
I’d find it hard to pay 10k for an 8 year old or when I’d probably get a 10 year old one for half that.

In terms of importing them, I’d say the Nox charge on them would be off the scale.
They never sold in big numbers, people would sooner have an A4 than a jumped up Japanese car :)
