LED headlight bulb replacement - is it possible?

    Hey guys,

Just got my loan approved for a used golf GTE Mk7 (162) reg and before I buy it I want to know if cars nowadays have permanent LED modules installed in their headlamps or if it is possible to replace LED bulb itself without replacing the entire headlamp?

Looking at a cost of replacing it, it would cost around 1800 euro to replace both and I really don't want to spend that much on a set of led headlamps if one of the LEDs goes...

Anyone has any thoughts on it or experience?

    Thanks.

LED's are long life so I reckon the bulbs will outlive your use of the car and over time the costs will reduces for parts like that as now headlights have moved onto laser systems

I have heard horror stories of failing LEDs and astronomic prices to replace full headlight units. My local mechanic told me he had a Kia in a few months back where one of the DRLs had failed and it failed the NCT. Quote from Kia was €800 for a new headlight unit as the DRL wasn't available as a separate unit. He said the customer left it and went to look at other options.

I know LEDs are far less likely to fail, but it's not unheard of. At lease with a VW, there will be used options to save buying new.

Just as l have researched, Golf GTE headlamps cost around 1600 to replace for both, Seat Leon around 800 for both headlamps. You're right in saying it is a horror story.
