Interested in the launch of the new 12 inch version.

From reviews I’ve read apps might be an issue regarding scaling I.e many apps not designed for the larger screen but just stretched phone apps.

Do you think this will change when larger tablets become the norm?

Apps aren't as good on android tabs as on ipads and I can't see that changing any time soon but Dex mode on the Samsung tabs is brilliant, turns the tablet into a laptop, I've an S6 and have it constantly on Dex mode and it does everything I need it for

Use DEX on and off with the S6, and while its OK, it never properly feels like a desktop replacement (more nice to have than essential), but its certainly a good tablet for basic browsing/email/media (for anyone not wanting to touch the Apple stuff) and the S7+ is better again with faster insides and probably the best screen you can get.

But there is a drop in spec in both storage and memory from the S6 which franky kills any idea of upgrading (at least direct from Samsung.....proper spec models can be imported from Europe)

I've everything on the cloud and rarely use anything local anymore so local storage doesn't bother me. I tend to use my phone for everything, then i goto the S6 in Dex mode and then windows laptop. I wouldn't be a heavy user anymore, everything I use is web based almost at this stage and I only have a few apps that I need and nothing that's Apple specific.

I've had the S3, S4 and S6 tabs, I'll probably miss this one as I don't have a need for it but that might change when I see it.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, the pen is a huge thing for me, I'm always taking notes so not having to carry around a notebook is a huge plus for me and being able to swop between the Note and S6 for notes is brilliant for me, i used to use OneNote but have gone almost completely to Samsung Notes now

I have an iPad 6. Want to upgrade to something with a big screen and decent pen. Thought this might be it

iPad Pro would be a far better option. Even the 2018 model.

Yep....its very much horses for courses, I do like the pen but I probably used it more with the Note a few years back (and probably will again when the Note 20 shows up), but no doubt some people find it essential (plus the pen is apparently much improved with the S7+).
Ironically Samsung Note will be syncing with OneNote in the near future IIRC correctly.

Regarding the drop in storage and memory with the S7 its just too much of a pill to swallow at that price, especially when other markets have better options by default. Looking at my S6 in front of me its already using 130GB of storage, so I hate the idea of having to compromise even with the cloud options out there.

Anyone properly interested in the S7+ would be probably better served dealing with Amazon Germany or France as at least the 8/256 spec is there for similar money (and even if the free gift of a book cover doesn't apply like going direct, its only the book cover as opposed to the keyboard cover that came with the S6).
Anyone wanting the full experience of the tablet in DEX etc with its official keyboard cover has another 250 additional cost whenver that turns up.

Whats gone from an interest in perhaps a reasonable priced upgrade on the S6 has evaporated IMO.

It used to be a must have to get an upgrade every year, now its every 2 years in my opinion. The S3 was a huge leap forward for tablets and I just got the S4 because of a project I was on, the kids have those now but if I had to pick 1 up to do something it'd be the 3. The S5 was a nonevent imo

The S6 is a beast though, does everything I need and probably loads more, the keyboard and track pad is brilliant, if the new 1 allowed them to be used wirelessly I might consider changing, saying that once I see the larger screen in the flesh I might be tempted

Changing from iPhone to Android is difficult enough but anyone that I know that has made the change will not be going back. I think Apple have such a huge headstart when it comes to tablets that if you're a heavy ipad user you won't be able to change, my parents have both apple and android tablets and rarely touch the android.

I was quiet excited when Samsung and Microsoft announced their partnership, if they were to get together and find a way to get desktop programs on a Dex tablet it could spark real challenges between the platforms

Oh aye.....I love the S6. No interest in going down the iPad route (had the first two models IIRC), so even though the 'Android tablet universe' is essentially a dead duck, the Tab S range still caters to those in the Android phone world who want that interconnectivity.

Looking at the videos of people using the S7+ DEX in comparison to the iPad Pro snapping apps, its not even close. Samsung have really worked on it, just needs more specific apps IMO.

Yeah, everything just works together and you just need the 1 cable. I'm probably a phone user who wants a big screen rather than a tablet user now that I think about it

I should probably add that I've gone completely down the Android/Google rabbit hole with a Shield and Nest products all over the house, the whole thing just works well together so adding an Apple product to the mix would probably be too much hassle than it would be worth for me considering the features I use in a tablet.

I had assumed that the S7+ would be coming with the keyboard case as preorder as the S4 and S6 both did, looks like its just a normal cover, that's very disappointing

I'll be honest, I only realised that earlier in the week. Had assumed it was the same as the last time.
    No such luck.
Hearing £220 sterling mentioned but not for sale yet. Major outlay for an already major one, especially for those who like just propping the tablet up for a bit of typing, never mind going the into Dex etc
Maybe they'll quietly add it as a freebie down the line because I'm not sure everyone preordering noticed.

    worth looking at this...

Dex makes it due to proper multi-tasking

I'm always a bit skeptical of reviews in advance of launch because the reviewers have to be on good terms with the manufacturer to get prerelease kit and theres isn't a guarantee that they are reviewing the final version as there's often last minute software/firmware updates

He's a respected reviewer tbh and gives a balanced review.

That review is showing off the keyboard case

They’ll all be sent them in advance in most cases regardless of relationship.

I don't want to derail the thread but thinking about getting an S4, liking the screen and pen option. I have a Tab E 9.6, the screen and the soc is a let down when it comes to reading pdfs.
For those who had it: had it been solid for you without any major problems? Thank you!

It's a rock solid very good tablet, I wasn't a huge fan of the keyboard case, very rigid but the pen was a step up from the S3. The 1 I have is in use daily by 1 of my kids, the other uses the S3 and I'd say the battery performance on the S4 is well ahead of the S3 but that might be down to usage.
