    Hi guys,
I am looking for a bit of advice. I have just moved into rental accommodation in Naas and had eir out to install broadband.Discovered that the there was no existing landline in place and landlord has informed us that we do not have permission to run any wires to get broadband and that we have to go with the mobile broadband...

So my question is does anybody here have experience using 3 for this. I spoke to a customer agent on the phone and he offered an 18 month package at 30 euro a month and the Huawei router free, or else a month to month rolling contract with the router costing 150 euro... Any indication what kind of speeds I could expect in Naas?

    Any and all help appreciated.

Get yourself a 3 PAYG SIM, 20 euro per 28 days for unlimited data.

Then either hotpsot from a phone or buy an unlocked SIM router. A good 4G router can probably be purchased for less than 150 on Amazon.

I will also suggest to go with prepay on three -I have a good unlocked modem for sale for only 40euro, like this https://ebay.us/ixMqFT

for network quality/coverage -please check here https://coveragemap.comreg.ie/map

    Hope this will help :)

Have a 3 Broadband account 30 day rolling, We in a City well inisde the 4G coverage zone, When its bad its ( frustrating )like 0.2Mbps when its good it can be 7.5Mbps (no issues with HD movies) it varies throughout the day. Its not suitable at all for multi user family usage like if kids on youtube and yourself watching netflix. If you can find a spot for the router with good 4G signal that feeds the house with good wifi it would be acceptable but not the same as say cable broadband its more like dial up some days but does come back to a more usable throughput. The Huawei is a good router and has all the modern features that are nice to haves in a router box. I find I have to reboot the box maybe once or twice a month especialy if the 4G goes to 0.0Mbps. To save yourself a lot of wifi headaches what ever devices like TVs and PCs that wont be moved much, have them connected with runs of ethernet cable to the router.

You're right, it's important to find a good spot in your house, you can also try to force your Huawei modem to work on different frequency - by default Huawei modems are set to Auto mode, where modem is choosing band with better reception, but that's not always equal best speed...
I was playing with HManager app and changed frequencies from Auto to 1800MHz, i didnt get a full reception on 1800Mhz, but speed went up from 2Mb/s to 19Mb/s.
Android app can be downloaded from here :

For some of the modems you can get external antennas to increase the coverage.

I had a lot of issues with our connection (Nova Broadband) in rural Tipperary with working from home this summer.

In frustration, I got a 3 PAYG Sim and put it into a 4G router, and it worked out quite well. It allowed me to work from home without difficulty for 2-3 months until we got Eir FTTH.

I've seen up to 90Mbps download at off peak times, and maybe around 10Mbps at peak times. The speed is inconsistant, but at least the connection is reliable in the sense that it never breaks down like the Nova connection used to do. Speeds around Naas will obviously be different, but if you're near a mast you might get better.

You can use this link to find your nearest 4G mast, it'll give you an idea on which side of the house to put the router. Worked right out of the box aswell.

The 4G router I got is this one. It's been very solid, the Wi-Fi is very good throughout the house with it aswell.

Being on 4G in a good area isn't too bad, but there are some limitations, like being stuck behind a Carrier-Grade NAT and not being able to do port forwards to the outside world.
