Car stereo won't budge

    Hi,

    I have a standard single DIN stereo in my Mercedes 190. It's a modern JVC unit.

    I'm trying to remove it to fit something more period correct but it won't budge with the removal keys. I even tried taking the ashtray out so i could push it from behind to help it out but still no movement.

    Am I missing some trick to get it out? I've swapped stereos before and never had this hassle.

    Can you see the back of it. Is there a small bolt attached to the center of the back of it which fits into a hole and then secured with a nut.

    I think the release keys I had were too short. I ended up taking the lower dash around the radio apart, it was only a few screws.
    Managed to release it then from behind when I could see what was happening.

    Made sure the new one fitted and released easily before I put the dash back together.
