Hi everyone! Hoping you guys can help me out. So have a 141 Mazda CX5 automatic. In Feb the injector needed replacing, last month the turbo had to be replaced at a total cost of 2.7k.

Reading on the mazda it seems to be a common enough issue?? The car was part of a recent recall too. Car has 86k KM on it. Drives great now and love it! But people are saying to get rid before something else goes wrong...

Any advice would be appreciated! Keep it or trade in..

You would likely need the be going to something either brand new or nearly new to not lose your shirt trading it in. If you are not in a position to do that I'd hold on to it, especially since you have spent so much on the most recent repair.

thanks for the comment. Got offered 13k for a trade in (paid 18.5k over 2 years ago) so ye ill need to add the guts of 16k to get a newish similar type car.

My worry is if I hold off the trade in value will drop and/or something else will go wrong.

    Decisions...

Get rid. You’re not doing too bad on the trade in.

You don’t have to spend €16k to trade up. Maybe look at 2016-18 cars?

Thanks for the reply. Ye true we don't need to go 16k. We're looking at RAV 4s so maybe a bit pricey but keen on a decent SUV. Rv4 we seen have high mileage.. from reading this forum a good guide is 15k KM per year...?

I can spend the 16k but I want it to be a newish car for warranty etc.. The experience with the CX5 has made me paranoid...

    .....

That's low miles IMO. Loads of fresh stuff would have more..... I'd not limit myself to cars with 15k kms/annum clocks :)

    Is it petrol or diesel?

Thanks for the reply. What would be a reasonable mileage for a 18 car. Looked at one today had 70k. Too much imo?

    Thanks for all the help.

13k trade in is the equivalent of €11k cash as a trade in margin is built into the headline price of a car, so it's a poor deal.

Or put it another way, if you were looking at a car that is listed at €30,000 and had no trade in, you should get that car for €28,000

I've a 181 with 76k kms on it..... It does a fair bit of motoring but the long spins are easier on it then the 10k annual kms pootling about urbanly.

I'd expect it to be priced accordingly though :)

What’s the OPs car worth? What should a garage be buying it for net of any margin or prep costs etc? If they don’t want to retail it, do you know what the trade value of the car is?

I think you’re doing very well on the trade I’m at 13k, those Mazdas are known in the trade to be very troublesome. Obviously who ever is trading it doesn’t know that.

You could look at a Renault Kadjar if you wanted a similar sized car and pretty good value for money.

I'm just informing the op that the difference is more than they think, so they can make a more informed decision.

Nothing wrong whatsoever with a garage making a profit but they do put a headline price onto a car so that they can give an inflated trade in figure.

That’s 2.2 engine can give all sorts of trouble with higher mileage so what you’ve had so far is probably a taste of things to come.

I’d get rid of it now. A hybrid Rav 4 is probably a good shout as the are super reliable

My 161 gave up the ghost at 210k, ultra reliable until then.
Bought a new one today, hopefully will get more out of it this time

How do you mean it gave up the ghost, what happened . 210K on a diesel is not huge milage. I be expecting to be able to double that on most cars
