well Ill qualify what I mean sometimes people do follow up, places like ireland offline use it to figure things out get the right info together and out and give politicians and companies a kick up the butt.. but then again thats on a single issue...

I came across these interesting links

    http://english.ohmynews.com/ArticleView/article_view.asp?menu=A11100&no=201088&rel_no=1&back_url=

"Dan Gillmor's announcement that he will leave the San Jose Mercury News next month in order to start a citizen-journalism venture has left many insiders scratching their heads. Why is the much respected tech writer leaving what he described as "greatest gig in the world" for the perilous journey of developing an entrepreneurial idea in citizen-journalism?"

but blogging is on the internet and not everyone has the internet...

its too expensive to print... the only home-made print things ive seen produced and distrubted widely are zines, which are mostly within the punk community.

what i was realyl asking at the time was something that would encourage to ave the confidence to do it themselves, that yo don't need to be 'a journalist" to report on things...

i don't get what you mean. if you have a burning issue, just go and do it.

I read we the media, i can see it on my bookshelf right now.

and if you don't want to use the most convenient and obvious tool to help you do it (the internets) then i'm not sure what you're getting at.

Citizen journalism is just a buzz word. Really what I think it's being used to describe is the shifting balance from established media to empowering people into doing things themselves. - The internet is just the communications medium, the investigating/reporting isn't necessarily done there. wikinews is the perfect example imo.

And a site like boards.ie is a perfect place to do it. If you made a significant discovery and posted it here, it would be picked up by the hundreds that would see it, who also submit stories to other sites (my own included) and it would end up a popular meme, circulating and then being taken up by mainstream irish media.

But I'm not sure if what I've said is really what you're looking at.
