Well I was going up a hill and felt a bit of a bang. The power started to go in the car. It still works but there is no power during accelleration. I have it parked up and mechanic will take a look during week.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue. Any ideas of cost to repair etc. Thank you.

Are there any warning lights on the dashboard? Is it a petrol or diesel, what age is the car?

No warning lights. 2006. Has 130,000m on clock.Diesel. I.9 TDI. I use it for driving to work only (motorway). Was serviced in March.

Is the car still running ok apart from being down on power?
Could be just gone into limp mode. Normally the car will will reset once ignition is off an back on again
I had same issue with an older Passat and it would normally happen if going up a hill or with hard acceleration
The bang is actually not a bang, but the instant drop in power makes it feel like there was a bang
Can be down to turbo issues or a leak in the vacuum system usually, sometimes a faulty MAF (but that normally throws an engine light)
In my own case it was a leak in one of the vacuum hoses across the back of the engine where it was rubbing and had worn through and once I replaced the hose, it was fine again

Yeah still running ok. Just down on power. Think max is 90 km per hour. Havent driven it though since. Parked up at home and getting looked at next week. Hopefully not too expensive or I'll just get rid. Be a shame as it is a very clean 06.

Same to me on an 2011 diesel Passat 1.6. it was fuel injector problem. Thankfully it was under warranty as it would have been expensive enough

Any black smoke out the back after the loss of power? Could a boost leak caused by a split in a boost pipe or a coupler failing.

Good point. Never thought of that.
Could also be as simple as a boost pipe blown off.
A few months ago while doing a job on my Audi (also a 1.9tdi) I had the hoses off. Turns out I didn't click one of the clips in properly on the coupler when putting them back on and 2 mins down the road when I put the foot down, that's exactly what happened.

Your problem is an injector problem. 2006 passats have Siemens injectors whereas Vw used to use bosch injectors which didn't give much trouble. The Siemens ones were ****e and for that reason there is or at least there was a recall on all passats who's Siemens injectors went bust. I had the exact same model of car and the same problem. I took it to a diesel shop and the guy there sorted the recall for me. I got 4 new injectors fitted for free. This was back in maybe 2011 so I'm not sure if the recall will still cover it but give it a try anyways.

Might have just popped a boost hose.
Will run but barely pull itself up a hill.
