Anybody able to give me an idea how much it would cost to replace a windscreen in a 2020 Hyundai i20?
I couldn’t find any prices online and was quoted what I think is stupid money.

I am just guessing that 95% of replacements are insurance jobs so the price reflects that.

Are you sure it isn't covered by your insurance policy?

But I don't understand, how can you have a brand new car with no windscreen cover? seems very odd to me.
Check the policy thoroughly it might be in there but hidden away.

It’s optional on a lot of comprehensive policies.

I paid about 200 euro (fitted) for a new windscreen on Megane Mk3. Pilkington brand screen from a windscreen specialist. A Hyundai i20 would surely be about the same or cheaper but if you go to a main dealer/get a Hyundai branded screen it may be an absurd price?

On a 2020 car I think I'd only be fitting a genuine windscreen, given Kia/Hyundai prices I'd say 6-800 would be about right

    Why though?

If it leaks it’s the windscreen crowd that would have to sort it either way. It’s the fitting of it that’ll cause issues and that won’t be done by the main dealer in any case.

Some cheaper non oem windscreens have very poor quality on them. I had a car with a cheap non oem windscreen fitted and from the mid point down the screen the view out the windscreen became a little distorted. It drove me mad but might not bother others. However insurance companies may only cover some of the cost of windscreen replacement if you decide to go OEM as OEM normally made by Pilkington in most cases are fairly expensive and the insurance company doesn't get a discount from the windscreen replacement company.

For what its worth, on a fairly new car I'd always opt for windscreen cover even it's an extra on the policy as it's usually not that much extra, maybe €20 versus a few hundred for a new windscreen out of your own pocket.

Fitting can be an issue but the biggest issue in my experience is the quality of the glass, often the black masked area is not the same as OEM and it's common for the cheaper windscreens to delaminate over time. They also don't tend to have the factory tint/coatings. Does it matter on a 10 year old car? Probably not but a car that new having a non OEM screen may raise questions
