Public liability insurance on a small farm

My sister and I have just been left a small cottage and a large field - probably about 6 to 8 acres by an elderly uncle.

Anyone have any ideas as to who would be the best company to approach re getting public liability insurance?

If it's not being worked as a farm, you won't be able to get farm insurance on it.

You need to look for one of the specialist unoccupied house insurers for the property. They won't be interested in the land, but a solution is to lease it to a neighbouring farmer for a nominal amount and get yourself "indenified" on his public liability policy

Couple of points I hadn't thought of there, Eggs.

Thanks very much for your input
