Tyres that will last on Ford Galaxy

Have a 2009 Galaxy I knew buying them they were heavy on front tyres but I am getting no length out of them. (They are wearing evenly I get them tracked).

I had uniroyal rainexperts I knew these were soft (great grip though). Have Kumhos on now and they were worse.

Anyone recommend something that works giving decent grip but a bit of lasting.

I'm only going to recommend bridgestone or michellin but i'll prob get ate for saying that as I really am no expert and I'm sure people here know way more than me.

How long do you realistically expect to get out of them? I do 30,000km per year mostly rural driving and my general rule of thumb is if my front tyres last 6 seasons and I'm happy.

Have you any idea what brand were on it originally from new, could be worth looking at those? If your spare tyre is full size it's likely the same brand that was originally on the car, you could check the date stamp on it if it matches the car.

Found Kumho better than Hankook. Considering Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance next. 2011 petrol.

How many miles are you getting on a set of tyres?

Pirelli P7 have lasted longer than any tyre I've ever used. 5 years on the rear of a front wheel drive car and 50% worn (100,000km).

It's how long is a piece of string stuff unless you tell us the size of the tyre, whats good mileage for one size is poor mileage for another size, also you need to tell us how long they are lasting for you.

From my experience most Kumho, Hankook, Uniroyal, Vredestein and Avon tyres wear quickly on heavy cars. So are best avoided if you do alot of driving. These would be noted as generally being decent midrange brands.

Good grip and handling characteristics out of most of them but the trade off is the wear rate.

You are looking for your cake and to eat it too. I get 10,000 miles at the front out of a set of michelin sp4 on my passat cc but i wouldnt trade them for anything with the grip they give while braking and they are superb in the wet.

If you want a hard compound tyre that lasts longer you will sacrifice braking and grip. You might save a few hundred quid every year with the harder compound but is that worth it for overall safety? I'm assuming you carry your family in an MPV the size of a galaxy?

My advice (and not what you are looking for) spend the very most you can afford on tyres for the very best brand and compound grip wise and dont worry too much about longevity.

Just as an aside, we have a few Galaxy's at work and the tyres seem to wear excessively quickly. I was only talking to someone about it on Friday. (They only do moderate milage).

Yeah it is a known trait of the Galaxy they have a heavy front end.

To answer the questions they are 215/60 16. I am getting maybe 6 to 8 thousand - change at annual service. Rear tyres outlast three sets of front. I am aware that more grip generally leads to faster wear but something that lasts a little longer would be nice.

Not sure what the OEM is maybe someone knows?

I got 30k km out of original Michelin primacy hp on my 2 litre diesel smax (4 tyres rotated at 20k km), I replaced them with Michelin primacy 4.
Too early to say how they are wearing yet but they are more comfortable, there seems to be more give in the side walls.

What pressures are you running? And are they XL rated tyres?

    Yes always XL rated

    Pressure: 2.2 2.4

I think you need a 109 grade tyre. With full load and fuel shes a heavy girl. My brother up sized the aspect ratio on his with good results.

As fabsoul said van tyres would probably last longer than any car tyre.

I'd also increase the tyre pressure to 3 bar.

I’d go with the Michelin if I was you, regardless of what type of car I’ve ever driven Michelin have always lasted longer than ANY competitors tyre in km life ‘v’ cost price regardless of brand and less punctures too.

I recommend Dunlop Efficient Grip tyres.

We have them on our Smax. I strive to get best wet grip performance over anything else.

I've found these tyre to be great.
I pay 125 euro a corner for the XL version.

I'm driving a 2012 VW Tiguan FWD and my standard tyre size is 235/55/17. Maybe it would help if you went for a wider tyre. 215 seems Passat/Mondeo width
Also have a look for some owners clubs for Galaxy and you might see recommendation there. Eg. - http://www.fgoc.co.uk/membership/

For me Continentals only lasted 8k miles while I get approx 15k miles from Michellin Premacy or Good Year asymmetric 5. Given the GY are normally a bit cheaper than Michelin, the GY has been my tyre of choice for a few years now

No an smax although they would be reasonably similar with the Galaxy only being slightly heavier at the back

Aye, we have both the Galaxy and the S Max.

Galaxy much harder on tyres in my experience although what I have on the S Max might be harder wearing its otherwise rubbish.
