Real butter

Like most Irish people, I demand real butter and real milk. It made me think this morning, what else do I insist of having the real deal of?

But there's problems. Like real butter and spreading. Usually I put in the microwave for 10 secs, but that's a compromise I'm willing to do.

I used to live with a guy who bought those cut up chicken fillets :pac: We'd slag him and say go for the real thing, sure enough eventually he was cooking a whole chicken which would do for days. Sure it takes longer but better in the long run.

What do make sure to get the real versions of?

    Fresh cream.

SuperValu have a fridge - eclairs, vanilla slices and the like and they state they are cream cakes. So I bought some and they weren’t fresh cream at all but some fake ****e.

False advertising and I was not amused.

For some reason diced chicken breast in Lidl is cheaper than full breasts, for the same weight. A no brainer for curries, fajitas etc

Leave some butter in a butter dish out of the fridge and you'll be able to spread it easily unless your house is very cold.

Cut a fresh croissant open like a bread roll, spread kerry gold butter on each half as if you had 1 hour left on earth, place 2 just fried rashers in and close. Press down with your hand to flatten . Sit somewhere you like , pick it up and stare at it for 10 seconds before eating. When finished , stand up and brush off the flakes of croissant you failed to eat and go get the Hoover.

Real fur. The synthetic stuff is just not suitable for underwear.

Pencils with real lead in them - just need to get out of the habit of chewing them.

Real Madrid. Can’t stand Fake Madrid.

You can also just make your own butter at home.

Add some double cream to a clean plastic bottle (like a Ballygowan bottle) with salt, and shake it for a few minutes, then cut the bottle, take out the butter and rinse it under a tap.

    The end.

Shop-bought butter and cream are about the same price, but the thing about this process, is you can add chives and garlic or basil or whatever you want, and then it's much cheaper in cents/kg than the varieities you can buy in the likes of SuperValu.

Or just never put it in the fridge in the first place.

Making salty cream by shaking a “bottle” for a few minutes? I had an neighbour that used to try that one on me. You only fall for it once. Twice tops. Definitely not more than 3 times.

    Butter

Living in the UK I don't always have access to Kerry gold so when I see it in the supermarket I always grab 4 or 5 packs to see me through.

I really really really miss Brennans bread.

When I was living in the UK, I noted that many people considered salted butter to be of lower quality. You’d even hear it being said on cooking shows. So that used to annoy me.

UK bread is disappointing. People might think Irish sliced pan is bogstandard but it is so much more flavoursome than the UK equivalents. I took to making my own soda bread when I lived there. (Couldn’t be bothered making yeast breads). My friend’s Welsh husband looks forward to consuming lots of bread when they visit Ireland.
