    Hi Guys,

Heading up to Dublin next week to look at Engagement rings. I have Voltaire, Appleby, Bespoke Diamonds on the list. Anyone bought off any of these before and what was service/value for money like? We have been to Limerick and we were impressed by the offering in Matthew Stephens, not so much in Keanes.
    Thanks

Check out reputable antique dealers who deal in jewellry. You will get better quality and it wont look like you got your ring in Ikea

Do you know of any good antique dealers in particular in Dublin that would be worth checking out?
    Thanks

I bought off Voltaire and found them to be very helpful.

I had an idea on the type of ring I wanted and they were able to show me similar styles and then use them as a template to create the ring I wanted.

I bought mine in Weirs on Grafton street. Service was top notch, and refitted it for free. A little on the pricey side, but what the hell, you get one shot :)

I got my engagement, wedding band and eternity ring in Weirs. Lovely shop and experience.

Had a dreadful experience in Appleby's, I didn't want a diamond ring and the women dealing with us simply couldn't understand this fact and kept pushing things on me that I specifically didn't want. She made us feel like we didn't know what we wanted.

Johnston Court has a few jewellers, Greys is lovely.

I second this, they were lovely to deal with and very helpful. I adore my engagement ring.

Used be on O’Connell St - very helpful and had own goldsmith and designer working there - McDowells.

Also - for something very different - in the Trinity Enterprise Centre down in the little tower near Charlotte Dock there are a few silversmiths and goldsmiths working - I dealt with one in the 4th floor years back - they could modify eg a old family broach and make it into earrings / special occasion ring or you could work with them to design a specific ring or bring a diamond bought eg in Saudi/NY and have it incorporated into a ring for you ir ask them to ourxhase one of a grade and shape and incorporate it into the design for you. They also sell their own creations - or used to. There used be lots of really interesting specialised jewellery makers and goldsmiths in there.

Enjoy your day out- and congratulations!

O.S. As someone who has seen an elderly family member devastated by jewelery theft and all their memories and family heirlooms including wedding and engagement rings stolen I am strongly against the so called ‘respectable’ jewellers and second hand antique dealers that accept ‘cash for gold’ sales and often trade in others peoples misery. I don’t think asking for ID is enough when someone comes in with an armful of engagement rings to sell and personally I wouldn’t like to think that someones engagement or happy event is built on someone elses loss and devestation.

We found them brilliant. Knew when something didn't suit or work so didn't waste time on it. We went to the Powerscourt. I have tiny fingers and they were the only shop to make and effort to get the ring to fit by using cotton wool as hard to visualize when it is so massive. Really kind service. Enjoy.

I got my engagement ring in Bespoke Diamonds. I had no idea what kind of ring i wanted but Martin was so patient with me and gave me many options and helped me rule out what I didn't like. Delighted with my ring, it was reasonably priced, i found them cheaper than a lot of other shops but with the same high standard

Lovely thanks, we are going to spend two days up in Dublin so its all great advice to have armed going up. In a ideal world we probably would of bought the diamond abroad and brought it home to be made but Covid has put a stop to that. I'm also conscious of the origin if I do buy antique and want to get the certification. I know that can be difficult to get if going down that route. Cheers

I heard there are a lot of places around there so think I will make an appointment with Weldons and go from there. Thanks so much

They also do lab grown diamonds if that's something you're interested in (mine is a lab diamond)

I got my engagement ring in Bespoke Diamonds too. I hadn't a clue what I wanted and they let me try on as many different rings as I wanted. Box after box... I'm not kidding when I say I tried on dozens!

Do ask, they're a good deal less expensive than mined but chemically and physically identical. Mine is a .82 ct solitaire, the cut, colour and polish are of a very high standard. Well worth investigating imo. The only "problem" with them is that if a lot of them are produced, they may reduce in value but I didn't get my ring as an investment piece, it's my bridal jewellery and I'll never sell it. I'll see if I can attach a pic/video of my ring

Chupi in Powescourt recently had information about lab grown diamonds. Worth checking out on social media.

Glad to hear it :) Out of interest, how did it compared to Voltaire? We had an appointment booked for Voltaire, but ended up cancelling it just because I found the ring I wanted in Bespoke Diamonds first.

Voltaire were lovely probably would of went with them if we didnt go to Bespoke. They were very patient with me too and there was no pressure to buy. However value wise Bespoke came up trumps against any place we seen and we could get exactly what we wanted, so delighted with the outcome!
