    Hi guys,
Have been working my first office job for about 6 weeks now.
I've been working from home since it began.
I've back issues and wondering what and where is the best place for a chair?
I got paid about a week or 2 ago so can finally look at getting a decent chair.

I'm in the same boat with regards to needing a chair, but it seems all of the good ones are sold out everywhere. None in Ikea, none online, none on second hand websites.
In terms of chairs I'm looking at the Herman Miller Aeron or Steelcase Leap v2

Why isn't your employer providing you with one?

If your employer isn't supplying their own (which they should be) Hermon Miller Embody, or Aeron. Steelcase Reply Mesh.

    Thanks guys.
I never thought I'd be supplied with anything?
Was more happy that its work from home for the time being ,meaning I save on commuting costs.
Are they legally meant to give you a chair?

They don't have to legally give you a chair but they do have to ensure your workplace is health and safety compliant. Your home still counts as your workplace if you are working from home.

They are legally meant to provide whatever you need to do the job.

If the office is closed just ask them if you can borrow a chair from work. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Once you have documented your back issue to them... they have asked you to work from home, they need to be willing to provide a suitable environment in keeping with your health and safety when working.

I’ve a comfy leather office style chair in front of my pc so I wouldn’t be needing to hit them up for anything but if I didn’t I’d be downloading and familiarizing myself and them with the legislation, in hard copy... then showing them in a brochure what I need... and what they need to give me...

Back issues are common among office workers, and no doubt a good chair can help you to avoid such problems. There are many stores like Hunt Office, Office Chairs and official online store of Harvey Norman from where you can see a variety of office chairs. Still, you should determine which height would be better for you according to your height and also need to consider other features as well. Hopefully, the following articles would assist you in picking a perfect office chair.

Usually, we ignore these things while purchasing office chairs, desks and other stuff. However, you must check them to get a reliable product. Personally, I prefer the office chairs or other office furniture that comes with the BIFMA certification. You can also consider it. By the way, IKEA could also be an excellent place to buy quality office chairs with features like the armrest, adjustable height, ergonomic design and lumbar support etc.

6 weeks into a new job , ignore all the advice about demanding anything from your employer or telling them you have a bad back , this will raise a lot of red flags.

if you can afford a good chair invest accordingly as you will spend a lot of time in it.

Was he about to ask his employer to pay for office chair? Even he is working from home now? I didn't read any detail like this in OP's question. But I agree he should demand from employer anything and probably, world is going to face a recession. A tough time even after this virus pandemic.

The employer has a duty of care for an employee's work space even if that is at home for the time being.

None of us said they should "demand" anything, just gave them suggestions on good office chairs and that the employer should help to set up their workspace.

There's right and wrong ways to request things, but demanding won't get you anywhere but none of us suggested that

You need to look for a chair that has adjustable height and adjustable armrests. You also need to have it at the right height, with your feet firmly on the ground (look up ergonomic adjustments for advice).
I would look for a second hand office furniture place near yo and go try some on. No need to spend hundreds.

This seems pretty close to demanding

Documenting a bad back with your employer 6 weeks into your office job is terrible advice.

Look, they are requesting that you help them by working from your home. You don’t have a suitable office in your home, or office furniture you have back issues and are asking that they provide a suitable chair that enables you to work in comfort and safety. They have a duty of care to you as long as they are paying you.

Not going to break the bank and when you return to the office the chair comes too... is held in storage as a spare or any chairs that have dodgy casters, or dodgy tilt or raising hydraulics can be replaced immediately.

I recommend Office desk chair of Hbada, I love it! This chair save my neck and back. Most comfortable chair for sitting at my computer all day than the other ones. . It adjustable for naps and that's really comes in handy. You can also adjust the height of the chairs like the others and even the leg support extension length. This ergonomic recline chair caught my eyes when I was searching one for my new home. I decided to give it a shot considering its affordable price. Now I am very satisfied after several days' use. It looks stylish, sits comfortable. Its multiple height, tilt, lift and lock positions can meet different needs in different situation. It is also very easy to set up, took about maybe 10 or 15 minuted to build.
