OtThinking of bidding on a 2017 Renault Kadjar 1.5 Dynamique S. It's a mid range spec Kadjar and goes to auction soon. I'm very interested in it and it's probably at the top end of my budget. It has 18,000 miles on it, runs on Diesel and is a manual transmission.

As I'd be importing it from the UK, I entered the details on the VRT calculator; get down to as far as body type - I select "HATCHBACK" then move on down to Version - there's only one trim available from the drop down menu "1.5 DCI Dynamique S NAV 5door" which happens to be the trim I'm looking at. VRT was calculated at €2,404 which seems reasonable.

For some reason, I checked back again last night but instead of selecting hatchback as the body type, I select Jeep. This time the drop down menu in the Version field offers a range of trims. I select the one I'm looking at but this time the VRT is calculated at €3,028, less than €100 off the VRT price of the top spec version.

I went on google but this actually muddied the waters further, I found the same version of the car but with lower mileage is being advertised with a VRT of €2,546. In fact, all the 17 models of that trim is listed with a VRT price of €2,546?!

Not overly familar with how VRT works but if I was to print out the first calculation when registering the car, do you reckon it would be accepted?

Don’t go on the VRT price listed in an advert, particularly usedcarsni. They’re rarely correct.

Does the Co2 value on the VRT calculation match the Co2 for the particular car you’re looking at?

I just checked there on the VRT calculator & indeed there is a discrepancy in the Co2 emissions between the two calculations. The VRT calculation of €3,026 seems correct as it is based on the emission rate of 103.

Thanks for pointing this out to me; at least I know how much VRT I ought to factor in when deciding how much I ought to bid at auction.

There will be different Co2 variants of the same model as revisions are made. The list price may be different to start with depending on what year that particular variant was launched, so as well as differences in the VRT % applied you can have differences in new price too.

You can check the VRT of a specific reg number on cartell.ie for free.

Don’t forget to factor in nox charge. Won’t be a lot but it’ll be a few hundred anyway.
