Hey All, quick question. Dropped my Audi A5 into the audi garage as my gears were sticking. They said its more likely the clutch and pressure plate. Quoted me 2995euro. This seems high to me so I'm looking around but can anyone advise on what a good price would be for this?

Sickening call to get in the morning.

    Sounds very expensive.

I had same job done on an E Class merc, and it was ~ €1,600.

Why not phone around the numerous gearbox repair centres around the place who specialise in just these jobs....

Sounds over the top - what year /mileage is the car.

Sounds about right including a flywheel. Someome has obviously considered the quote before getting in touch with you if they offered it at €2995.

Obviously there are cheaper routes to getting it done.

Assume it’s a 2.0 TDI? 3 grand seems an awful lot.
Any idea how much of that is parts?

Be €15 or 1600 ish including a flywheel. Then 8 hours at €160 or so an hour.

They area polite kind of PFO prices to an extent. It's not work that they chase. If you take the job at that price, great and if you tow it away there's no love lost.

Had a busy morning, rang around and asked friends who have Audi's where they go. Got onto a lad in Cork who will replace the clutch with flywheel along with the rear brake pads and discs for 1200 all in with OEM parts.

Audi originally quoted me 2995 for the clutch/flywheel, 460 for brakes and then the 98 for the diagnostic for a total of 3553!!

Apparently, from speaking with a friend who knows a guy in there, someone in charge of pricing in Audi Cork is increasing prices in terms of labor compared to other Audi garages or others in general. The parts for the clutch should be 1100 going by their own pricing system, so 1900 for labor that was estimated at 8 hours.

I liked going there to have a full Audi history but not at those prices and when I'm planning to keep it. The car is still driving but the gears are sticking like **** randomly as I drive so it was determined that the clutch/flywheel have issues.

    Mine is a 2013 2.0 S-Line A5.

A 7 year old car has no place in a main dealer unless it’s for basic oil changes to get a dealer stamp on the book.

I don’t buy into the notion that if you can afford an Audi then you should have your pants pulled down by the service department.

Full main dealer service history is great and all but on a 7 year old car it really makes little difference to it's sell on price. Totally unnecessary and crazy to get that work done at a main dealer unless Audi are paying something towards the cost.

Totally agree, while I like the idea of having the service history, im not expecting it to have any impact on the resale value when it comes to that which by then will probably be a 10 year old car.

This was my first major work from them bar a yearly service and some cosmetic work so I'm glad I looked around. What I find crazy is that they dropped their initial estimate from 3500 to 2100 for all the work once they knew I had a friend who knew a person working there and they were told I was shopping around. That's when I was told that someone in there has been inflating the repair prices.

Yeah, they weren't paying anything but from the previous reply I left, they dropped the cost from 3500 to 2100 when they knew I was walking and shopping around. Also, when they knew I had been told about the practices there in terms of prices. Madness.

This new lad gave a great estimate

€160 an hr for labour that’s mad I thought most main dealers where about €60-80 an hr plus vat but they probably outsource that job to other garages and charge the person full wack I suppose.

No, that would never happen. That'd be far less lucrative than just doing the work themselves.

Good local indepemdents are charging €50-70 an hour.
