    hi all,

Just to say in advance I'am new to Diesel so any assistance would be greatly appreciated . The sons car died on him on the motorway on Friday , a sudden loss of power and then no restart.

The engine turns and then dies immediately he also mention that earlier in the day there was a Whoosing sound from the engine ( sounds like a turbo pipe off/cracked ) but then went away.

I have ran VAGCom with no DTC errors reported or indeed any other errors.

    Engine (J623-CGLC)

    01-Engine -- Status: OK 0000
    03-ABS Brakes -- Status: Malfunction 0010
    04-Steering Angle -- Status: OK 0000

    52-Door Elect, Pass. -- Status: OK 0000
    53-Parking Brake -- Status: OK 0000
    5F-Information Electr. -- Status: OK 0000
    62-Door, Rear Left -- Status: OK 0000
    72-Door, Rear Right -- Status: OK 0000
    8F-Pretens. Frt Left -- Status: OK 0000
    90-Pretens. Frt Right -- Status: OK 0000

I checked the fuel pump fuse and thats ok

The diesel heater element sign on the dash works as expected ( on then off after a couple of seconds ).

Anyone have any suggestions of where to go next ???

    thanks in advance

    brendan

Is the engine starting and dying or just turning over? Could the timing belt be broken?

If it's starting then dying after a few seconds it's not the timing belt.

Might be a fuel issue. Check fuel filter for contamination. Could also be a TDC sensor or knock sensor issue. I've had issues with that particular engine and similar symptoms.

I had it scanned by a mate who had the equipment. If it is the sensors don't waste your money getting non OEM ones. I did and went through 3 of them. The Audi part wasn't cheap I think around 130 yo yos but I should have got it to begin with. It was a piece of pish to change 2 bolts & a block connection. As far as I remember it wa easy enough to access also. Best of luck with it.

Similar happened my wife on motorway last year driving same car as your sons.

One of bolts holding in one of the injectors became loose.

Mechanic said it was very unusual and has only seen this happen once before.

    hi all

just to let you know that Moanin was SPOT ON :D:D:D:D:D:D.

the bolt holding in the bracket for the 2 rear injectors was loose and you could actually see them popping up when trying to start the car. After tightening the bolt up it started first time .

thanks to all for your advice and help. If we ever meet up Moanin I owe you a pint or 2 .

    regards

    Brendan
