60s Bungalow renovation

    Bought an old house, decided quickly rather than move in first and slowly do up we'd do full renovation. Looking for rough guesses/opinions. BER rating is F. And my question takes two parts a) definitely being done and b) not decided

    a) - suspended floors taken up and insulated
    - insulation board on all external walls
    - replumbed and rewired
    - install condenser boiler
    - replace single glaze with triple glaze windows

    How far would these raise BER?

    b) the budget might not stretch to solar panels at moment. Can these be added later or will it be a case of taking out what's being put in now with new hot tank?

    Edit... Think this should be in either BER or renewable section

    Had a 1960s bungalow - was F BER. Did some of what you plan to do. We replaced single glazed windows/doors for triple glazed and we did cavity wall beaded insulation. We also insulated the attic and upgraded the hot water cylinder. BER after these works was E1.

    What about air tightness, aka uncontrolled ventilation
    what about the arctic.
    Forget about Solar thermal, go for PV when the time comes.

    If taking up the suspended floors, made think about UFH?

    If you go for the SEAI grants you need to hit a B rating to qualify after spending?

    There's a 3 1/2 foot space underneath 🀣 we are putting roofing felt over the joices and laying insulation between them with plywood on top. Before putting finished floor on top

    Thanks for reply. Does B mean you can easily install later? Or that it will mean whatever is put in now needs to get replaced? Can you have hot water with plan to convert to Solar at a later stage without incurring extra expense/dead money

    Not sure what SEAI grants you have in mind, but the beaded cavity wall insulation and the attic insulation gained us an SEAI grant of €850 - not sure which part of those 2 pieces of work gave us that or maybe it was a combination. The replacing of the windows and doors didn't seem to have any associated grant we could apply for or at least none that we knew about.
