Marking cattle to draft for sale

Is anyone using any innovative techniques for marking cattle as potentially fit for sale?

When I am picking through my cattle I normally pick through them by eye first as they are eating nuts around a trough but then they need to be penned and run through the crush to check for fat cover by hand. It would be handy to be able to mark the cattle some way around the trough so that when the full batch is penned they could be easily identified to be run down the crush. Reading tag numbers is not ideal here as they are often dirty.
I have tried using spray marker but getting in close enough to spray an animal from behind at a trough is a recipe to lose a knee cap through a well aimed kick! I had thought of getting one of those long handles sprayers that dairy lads use for tail painting from the parlour pit.

But maybe someone else is using a better technique???

Man up. What do you need two kneecaps for?

Keep using the spray and get one of these.

"The Gotcha Sprayer Pro is an adaptor that screws onto an extension pole (sold seperately) that will trigger virtually any type of aerosol spray......"

That new long reach paint roller for tail painting cows would be the job

Often have the same problem with sheep and its far harder to differentiate when all penned up, was thinking of buying a paint ball pellet gun, but I might intentionally use the real thing by accident!
