Laptop Repair

    Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but i need a bit of guidance.

I need to have my laptop checked out. Its an Acer Aspire E1 bought refurbished in 2015. I haven't really had any problems with it in all the years i have had it until recently.

A few times it has been slow at booting up where although it is fully charged it wont turn on straight away and will take a few attempts to turn on. Its very rare that happens. The hinge on the left hand side is broken. Today i plugged out the charger and it made a slight noise and a small bit of smoke came out of it which has never happened before.

Would anyone be able to recommend a place that could diagnose the problem and hopefully get it fixed, if its even worth getting fixed.

    Thanks in advance :)

First thing, I would not plug it in again if you seen smoke coming out of it.

The hinge will be hard to repair to as new condition.

I would just get another refurb if I were you. Take the hard drive out of it and chuck it in the bin.

It's unlikely to be worth repairing at this stage unless you know someone who repairs electronic components.

It's possible it might only be the power supply in which case finding a replacement power supply would fix it. Do you know anyone with a multimeter?

    What is a multimeter?

Anyone who works with electronics and many people who would do a bit of electrical DIY would likely have one hanging about. It would allow you to check if the power supply is working or not.
