Clamped as the app listed wrong pricing

Asking this on behalf of a friend who was clamped this week.
She parked on south circular road and paid using the parking app. In the app the zone was listed as orange so that was the rate she paid. However, the zone was recently changed to a green zone but the app did not reflect this change. Can confirm the signs in the area did list the zone as a green zone. She was clamped and paid the fee.

She appealed based on the fact that the app incorrectly listed the area as an orange zone and they took payment for parking. DSPS refused the appeal saying the onus is on her to check the street signage.

This seems pretty unfair to me as they took and processed payment incorrectly. There was about 10 other cars clamped too so think this happened to a lot of people.

Reckon she can get the money if she continued the appeal?

If the appeal is unsuccessful and you are dissatisfied with the outcome you can make a further appeal to the National Transport Authority (NTA).
The appeal must be made within 30 days of receipt of notification of the decision of Dublin Street Parking Services.
Further details are available at National Transport Authority – Appeals and Complaints.

    Take pictures of street signage.

Did the app not list both orange and green zones and ask her which one she was in?

Hmm, as of today it asks you to confirm location and check signage, but you can still only select orange zone. Stretch of south circular just after St. James

They should just ban clamps altogether and just issue tickets.

You can't really appeal a clamp as it's already cost you your time.

That app is an absolute disgrace too. Full of bugs, and so they disable screenshots so you have no evidence to complain with.

I completely fail to understand how the crowd collecting payment can bear no responsibility for the accuracy of what's supplied.

I never knew they disabled screen shots, that's pretty shítty behaviour.

Under the guise of "security" too, which makes no sense as...

A: No card details are visible in the app
B: You're logged out of your payzone account by default
C: No place to check your current balance, and oh yeah...
D: Revolut and Google Pay both allow screenshots.

Oh and to top it off, your transactions are saved to a log, but not where you parked, information which they must have, but for some mysterious reason don't let you see it.

Also, when I installed it first sms messages are on. You pay for them. You have to log in to the website and change something in your profile to have the option to turn them off. More shítty behaviour. Push notification should be fine, not an sms which you have to pay for

I'm almost certain I never saw that there was a change for that. Sure enough, I've a load of charges for texts - which of course aren't show in the app either, despite coming from the same database.

I disabled that fairly sharpish years ago, when the texts were coming in an hour or more after the parking had expired!

Bad enough to charge you, but to charge you for a text that was hours late?

It's a very handy app for parking in the city, but as an app it's a load of crap.

There's lots of areas that appear brown when you search for location - I think they're the fringe areas that have changed colour (at least a year ago, from recollection) but never got changed in the app yet. How long does it take, exactly?

None of that is much use to the OP though. Be interested to hear how their pal gets on, but I fear street signage will trump all (I know I always, always check the signs, just in case)

They're changing their app very soon. Hopefully improved.

I never even noticed there was a charge. Was talking to someone and they said they turned theirs off in the app. I couldn't on mine. Got onto them and found out you had to log in to the webpage and turn on the option there.
It's a really handy app for parking but stuff like that is shítty behavior imho. No doubt they have a premade excuse for using SMS rather than push notifications.

That is definitely an app problem. It should offer both zones. Probably little success in claiming off Payzone but absolutely no basis to claim from DCC or to support an appeal unfortunately.

Is it the ParkingTag.ie app that we're talking about here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭ordinaryfella

It is that app, correct. If she appeals I'll let ye know how it goes

If you have someone with you, just take a photo of your screen with their phone

I have done on occasion, but it remains a particularly cynical way of covering their tracks and limiting your avenues to complain if there's a mistake on their side.

Even Dublin city councils map of zones is often wrong,

    https://www.dublincity.ie/sites/default/files/content/RoadsandTraffic/Parking/Documents/RT5224-001%20Revised_%20Parking%20Tariffs%202019.dgn.pdf

and I got clamped as parts of one street are free after 7pm while elsewhere on same street are not. Even opposite sides of the road have different times.

The clampers know the areas that cause confusion and target them.

As for OP they make it hard to appeal, you need to post a letter etc. and typically they say tuff,

The whole sneakyness turns me off visiting the city centre, and the cost typically means I choose out of town stores with free parking.

I recommend everyone give bad feedback for the app on google play store etc
