Purchasing Shed as an office

    Hi folks,

I am considering purchasing a shed and working from there in my garden. I have given up working in a shared office.

My question is can I claim the purchase and fit out of the shed as an expense and claim the vat back?

Are you self-employed/business owner, or PAYE? Are you registered for VAT?

If you're self-employed/business owner then yes, you can.

If you're PAYE, you can only claim €3.20 per work day from your company/Revenue.

Unless you're registered for VAT then you cannot claim it.

Your shed would need to be insulated to a pretty high standard to be able to withstand an Irish winter.
