    Hi,
Hope someone can help me with my question. I have 2 one bed apartment on first floor which I am applying for fire cert. There is a small window on the landing area and my engineer is saying that I need to connect this window to the fire alarm system so it opens if fire alarm goes off. Firstly surely it’s worse if there is a fire and the window opens? Is there really a need for this or can anyone offer their expert advice?

    Many Thanks
    P

This will be required to be an openable vent.
In the case of a fire it will open and clear smoke from the escape stairs.

It’s a minimum requirement and must be done. Another option is an AOV in the roof at the top of the stair well.

Is this built already or still at the planning/design stage?

Thanks Gumbo. It’s built a few years back but hadn’t a fire cert. I just bought it few months back. Do you know do I have to get an entire new window or can you get a motor that attaches to the opening part of the window? Thanks

The OV has to comply with the EN standard as a unit.
My guess is a whole new window and actuator connected to the FADS.
