I bought travel insurance back before the panademic. It cost 80euro. Today is the day my holiday was to start but it was cancelled

As they are not providing a service am I entitled to the money back?

    Thanks

What service in your contract are they not providing?

I'm guessing the reason they aren't paying out is because their terms and conditions have a get-out clause. You should give them a read and see. You may have to bring them to the small claims court (see thread on that).

If it was cancelled then the travel agent should refund as opposed to the insurance

They are providing the service you just can't access it ,so no you are not entitled for a refund of your travel insurance. You should have contacted them before hand to see if you can postpone the policy.

Who do people usually go with, multi trip, cover for you etc?

Can we go with the UK ones as Irish residents?

As usual with everything here, go compare and Moneysupermarket etc are throwing up quotes for a couple for a year for as little as £20-30.

Meanwhile the cheapest here on ucompare is €60-70

You get what you pay for. Comparing policies solely on price without comparing the level of cover provided and (most importantly at this time) exceptions from cover, is a recipe for disappointment when something goes wrong and you want to make a claim.

Yeah, the UK ones are 4/5 star rated by defaqto and include everything that the Irish ones do- multitrip, insureandgo etc.
in fact their excesses are less and cover maximums are more.

I’m just not sure if we’re eligible as Irish citizens, doesn’t say in the small print T’s and ax’s. Would be no good if something did happen, too late then!

A lot of them are advising to add “disruption of travel” add on at the moment, and only a few cover if you fall ill with Covid, again the English ones.

I had booked a trip to Mexico in January for July and then in March went looking for travel insurance.

I spoke to most of the companies offering insurance in Ireland and VHI had by far the best offering. Their FAQs explicitly stated that they covered Covid-19 related cancellation to a higher value than Multi-Trip covered for non-Covid cancellations.

VHI was about €75 for 2 for a year.

Thankfully everyone bar the hotel has already refunded me, and the hotel has promised a refund once their billing team are back working.

    Hi @smee_again

Just went onto VHI travel insurance and it states that you can only take travel insurance with them if you have private medical insurance? It’s in the T’s and C’s.

Does anyone know if we can buy insurance through the UK websites as Irish residents?
