NCT is a money making scam.

    How prevalent is this opinion?

I was chatting to a girl in the waiting room (approx my age, late 20's) when we were waiting on our cars to come out. She seemed nice at first.

She was harping on about how the NCT is a money making scam. She raised some good points about bulbs, they shouldn't be tested at all. While there are people driving around with one eyed cars, enforcement should be left to the Gardaí. She said a bulb could blow on the way to the centre or on the way out after receiving a pass.

I said to her that the NCT keeps sh1t buckets off the road though, but she was having none of it. It was "all a scam".

The tester called her to say that she has to have a visual retest because her boot is full and seatbelt clips are covered. She flew into a rage and started roaring at him. The man was cool and collected and remained a gentleman.

I met her out in the car park, after my car passing. She was like a bull. Roaring at me about the "prick who failed her". He was an eastern bastard etc. She was emptying her boot. He agreed to do the visual there and then.

I hope she's an isolated example and people don't have such a blasée attitude towards car maintenance. There could be people who buy a new car who'll never service it or check tyres before the first nct in 4 years.

I check my tyres once a month with a callipers and write the measurements in a notebook. Every 16k I bring her for a service. I've been criticised for wasting money by co-workers and friends
