Case XL cab gear issues

Our 885XL has developed a problem with the range selector.

It gets stuck in the low range.
What is happening is the plates under the cab are getting out of sync, it’s not a gearbox issue.

Has anyone dealt with this ??

Now I know what it is I can climb under and pop the offending plate back in sync, but that’s not a solution.

I think either the plate or the shaft that moves it needs replacing or repair.

Just wondering if anyone has BTDT and any advice.

How often does it happen? Used to happen with the old 885xl here too. But very rarely - maybe twice a year. I used use a tine from a rake to push it back into sync. It's wear on that linkage alright. Maybe the link can be replaced?

Happened last twice I was using the power box so it’s officially classed as a problem now.

As far as I know it’s a matter of putting a spot of weld on the end of a lever and grinding it back slightly. Or so I was told, the tine of a buck rake is what we used to use here to get it back in line too. Along with the hand brake it was there biggest flaw as a tractor.

I welded one for a friend, can’t remember exactly what I done but i know it only took a few minutes and it has done the job for the last 4-5 years

Are we talking about the end of the gear lever (3 in pic) slipping out of the selector shaft cups (20 & 16 in pic) (or whatever they are called)?

If so, then you weld on 4 spots on the side of the ball on the end of the gear shaft. I did it here about 8 years ago with our old David Brown 995. It used to pop out regularily, usually when you were mad busy. Again like above, we used an old pin from a horse rake to slide the selector back in place. Funny thing is after I welded it, I made up a proper bolted plate on the cab floor for future access, but I never had to use it again.

Just weld small spots on the side in the front, back, left, right sides of the ball and hand file back a bit then.

    No completely different.

My problem is there is a set of plates and links between the gear levers and the side of the gear box. Wear in some components is causing these pores to get out of sync and jam the shifting mechanism between gear levers and gearbox.

Sounds like it’s a rainy day job in the workshop so, as mentioned above I asked on a FB group and they say remove the wheel and access isn’t too bad, when linkage is off wear should be obvious.

Ya for right access it'll be wheel off especially if its on 16.9r34s.
